Curious as to how LOST CAUSE came to be? So are we. It just kind of happened one Sunday... The three members of LOST CAUSE are all former members of other bands. Mike McHenry, the bassist, came from Sinister Minister; Christian Koch, guitarist, came from odd jam sessions with friends, always trying to get a real band going; Josh "Warp Speed" Swartz came from DKB (Different Kinda Bliss) Fame. Mike built a modest garage studio in lieu of a band in the winter of 2001. After Sinister Minister dissolved, he recorded local artists including Eric Miller, John Gleim, and Rootboy Slim and the Sex Change Band. Dubbing the Studio QUO VADIS, he soon realized that studios are only as cool as the people that visit, and since the visits were getting fewer and fewer, he asked Vadis regular Christian Koch if he wanted to start something up. They started scouting for Rhythm Gutiarists, since it was assumed that Mike would end up bassin' it up, and Christian would be the frontman. They thought that they had found a young talent in a twin, and scouted for a free drummer. They had few options. Most of the stellar Drummers in the area were already in organized bands...Josh Swartz was in DKB, Timmy H. was in a hard punk band with Eric Miller, and that was it. Online one night, whining to each other about the lack of a drummer, Christian said to Mike that he would ask his close friend Josh Swartz about playing with us. Things happened pretty quick after that. Josh and Christian came over to Quo Vadis Studios to Jam with Mike, and the subsequent jam session resulted in SIX original songs in 2 1/2 hours, and three very overwhelmed musicians. They came up with a name the next week, and made a practice schedule. They played pep rallies and continue to play to this day. They are probably daydreaming about playing right now.

CHRISTIAN- GUITAR, VOCALS. ***TAKEN*** Christian Koch plays guitar. He plays it very well. Even though he's only been playing for a few years, he's got quick execution, and classic punk appeal. He will wow you with his stage presence, he'll make your ears bleed with volume, and he'll give you a reason to come back and see us play at our next show. GET A LAUGH BY - Making fun of Lucas / Zack, Tilting your head Mrs. J style, and the "Two in the Pink, one in the stink" gesture. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JOSH - DRUMS ***TAKEN*** Josh Swartz, our drummer, is the cute one of the band, or so he says. He's been playing the drums for a good while now, and he gets better every day. The driving force behind the band, Josh likes to play difficult things and keeps the group interesting. He can play almost every Travis Barker fill, and is very modest and cool about his righteous abilities and talents. GET A LAUGH BY - Screaming "OH JOHN!" GET A SQUIRM BY - Mentioning The words "Lucas", "Jerked", and "Zack" in the same sentance. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIKE - BASS, Backup Vocals ***TAKEN*** Mike McHenry Plays Bass Guitar and sings the best he can. He's played guitar for several years now, but only has played bass for one. He does alright. Backing up Christian in the music and the vocals is his main duty, and has been known to make funny, but painful faces while playing GET A LAUGH BY - Talking in a Goat voice, Mrs. J Humour, Spitting Gum, Giving someone the Ball and Chain Manuver while he watches. THE BALL AND CHAIN: Get behind a guy, and if his legs are apart even a little, this will work. Sneak up from behind, and with your strong arm, punch upward through his legs from behind, and go up so that your bicep is in his crotch / taint area. The point isn't to hit his balls, just shove your arm up like stated. Then, out of PURE MALE INSTINCT, he will put his hands down to his legs to protect his genitals. When he reaches, grab his unsuspecting hands, and pull them right through his legs, out the back. He is now in a sticky situation. The more you pull on his arms, the more it goes into his genitals. The more he gives to ease the pain, the more he walks backwards. It's a Classic. Practice makes perfect.

Taken from the Newport BLUE & WHITE, October SUBMITTED AND WRITTEN BY HEATHER CHARLES! With their debut performance at the first pep rally of the year, Lost Cause exploded into the spotlight, bringing their upbeat, Punk tunes to Newport High School. This three-man band consists of Mike McHenry on bass, Christian Koch on guitar, and Josh Swartz on drums. After a few unsuccessful tries with other bands, the trio came together near the end of school last year and began jamming at josh's house. Ever since then, their Sunday afternoons and evenings have been devoted to collaborating their talents and putting together what may be the best high school band since Les Darian. Expressing the same amazing enthusiasm and love for music, all three band members agree that playing and performing are two of the most exciting things ever. "All I remember (at the pep rally) is them announcing us and then the cheering at the end. My brain must have somehow told my hands what to do and I was like 'Wow, this is awesome'", Recalls Mike McHenry, with a starry look in his eyes. "Then after the disbelief of the moment died down, Josh piped up and asked 'Did that actually happen?' It was unbleievable". Then Christian remarked, "We had just figured out the night before that I was going to be the one to sing the song, so I didn't get much practice. But after the performance, people wre coming up to me, telling me how great we did. It was the greatest feeling." When asked about inspiration, Mike reminisces about a memorable moment back in 8th grade. "I remember being in music class, watching Les Darian, and thinking that I wished I could be like them, influencing people the way that they do. If I could do that for just one person, I would be overjoyed." Josh agrees, "I think that it would be really cool to be that kind of motivation." One of the band's goals is to come out with an album close to the end of November. Titled "First Band on the Moon", this CD will feature close to 15 of Lost Cause's original tracks. Also coming up is their performance of the homecoming pep rally, and if you like what you see they plan on opening for Dingleberry Shortcake sometime soon. If you are interested in the band and if you would like you know more about upcoming performances and about the CD, contact one of the three band members.
