Artist History
Spelling variations of family name include: Rausch, Rauscher, Rausche, Rauschert, Rusch -this branch of the Rausch family is from the town of Coburg, Saxony Germany (East Germany)... Henry immigrated to the to Michigan, then moved to St. Paul Minn., Omaha, and finally St. Joseph MO. he is buried in the National Cemetery in Leavenworth KS.
Henry(Heinrich)first came to America (from Saxony Germany) during the Civil War and enlisted in the Marine Corps Band, lead by Fransis Scala and then Henry Fries at the time. Henry Rausch toured all over the US playing in bands including John Phiilips Sousa's. His son George and grandson Don were both professional musicans as well, George wrote over 250 songs and performed
on the violin and piano all over the midwest until he retired to live in Los Angeles Ca. and died in 1952. Don moved to Los Angeles in his teens and played with many local jazz & Big bands performing on the clairnet with comedian's Red Skelton, Jack Benny, Jimmy Durante, and Sammy Davis Jr. Don also played with Frank Sinatra's band, the Mills Brothers, Dean Martin, and many others in both LA and later Reno NV.
where he was a lifelong member and chairman of the Nevada musicans union. The Rausch's are known to master up to 3-4 instruments each! In this 1983 tape, a Mr. Zimmerman is playing the piano for the family, a special thanks to him! & Don Raush for the phone interview in Fall 2002. |
