Artist History
Nick began playing the guitar at a young thirteen
years old. Ever since that moment, Nick’s love
for the instrument has developed into a finely
crafted art, which he exhibits nightly on stage.
Pulling from influences such as Stevie Ray
Vaughn, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Mike Stern, Joe
Pass, and a number of others, Nick quickly
developed a grasp for his instrument and soon
adopted his own style. Feeding off a strong root
in Texas Blues, and soon absorbing the rich
musical culture of New Orleans, Nick’s
songwriting is unique and distinctive separating
itself from today’s wave of generic rock. Today,
Nick continues to practice and write striving to
perfect his musical art, an art for the listening
public. |

Jon Massing- Fresh from the Tallahassee, Florida
area, Jon brings a fresh new groove to the
Experiment. After obtaining a degree in Jazz
Studies from Florida State University, Jon
relocated to New Orleans in search of something
fresh and moving. After working with Diaz in the
same restaurant, the two collaborated on musical
ideas to push the Experiment as far as it will go.
Massing drums a steady beat with the structure and
seasoning of a true Jazz veteran, versatile in
all genres, thus complementing Nick’s aggressive
blues/rock styling.
Alan Broome- A native to New Orleans, LA, Broome’s
blood runs thick with musical knowledge and life.
Well versed in both the acoustic and electric
bass, Broome brings a new voice to the Experiment,
adding color and flair. Throughout studying
Music Education at Loyola University New Orleans,
Mr. Broome has performed with numerous jazz
musicians in and around New Orleans, as well as
the college rock acts, Brotherhood of Groove and
Nude Antz. With the Experiment, however, Broome
is able to explore in all musical genres instead
of confining his abilities solely to one style.
Together, Broome, Massing, and Diaz create for
their audiences a new sound.

Pickin' and screamin' all night long
On Thursday, March 14, six Loyola-based rock
'n' roll bands played at Tipitina's Uptown in
a show known simply as "ExtravaBandza!"
Mary's Point started up the festivities.
The Nick Diaz Experiment took the stage next,
followed by Yesteryear, Sleep Dep and Lowerline.
Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes brought the
musical evening to a close. The bands and the
crowd fed off of each other all night long,
yelling and joking back and forth between songs
and sets. The audience's energy never waned as
it showered the bands with affection all night
long. "Extravabandza!" was put on by Loyola's
music business program as a fundraiser to allow
music business students to attend a conference
in Nashville.
