    Artist History
Aug, 2001: No Standard formed by J S Gibbs and R J DeClute. Gibbs is the lead vocalist and lead/rythme guitars. DeClute is the drummer(squirt the little drummer boy). Sept, 2001: No Standard becomes a three piece with the addition of J B Poulos on guitar. Gibbs switched to bass guitar while the band looks for a permanent bassist. Oct, 2001: No Standard auditions bassist R J Dauffenbach. His bass playing fits and Gibbs moves back to guitar making the band a four sum. The band continues to write new songs and practice for the next few months. Jan, 2002: No Standard begins making plans to record a demo with Herb Sanchez. Feb, 2002: Recording begins in mid February but there are problems with the process. The initial location at Gibbs’ house is changed the day before recording to Mr. Sanchez’s house. The location change is only the first problem that the band is to encounter over the next several weeks. Mar, 2002: The second week of march the band played on a Wednesday Open Mic night at Wiseguys Bar in Saginaw. Later that week the band tried to work on the demo but, the recording process had reached a standstill. The attempt ended without producing anything that the band would consider reflective of their collective efforts. Then in the fouth week of March the band played again on Wednesday at Wiseguys. April, 2002: R J Dauffenbach went in for elective jaw surgery at the beginning of April. He planned to take time off to heal but ultimately he never returned to the band, although that was not clear until a few months later. During this month the band played at the River Rock Cafe’ in Bay City. On Thursday the 18th No Standard open for Triple Dog Dare minus a bass section. Despite the lack of a bass player the band played well and was asked to return at a later date. May, 2002: No Standard continued to work on music and search for a new bassist. They then played at Central Michigan University for a small local show that they headlined and ultimately played solo when the other scheduled band could not make the date. The band continued to schedule shows and prepare for them. June, 2002: No Standard set up the next two shows, one at the River Rock Cafe’ and the other at the Local in Flint. Then six days before the Local show Gibbs broke his ring finger on his left hand but he prepared to play anyway. Gibbs and Poulos worked on guitar parts switching them to accommodate for the damaged hand. The band also ask Ben Wolf, a friend of the band to play bass at the up coming River Rock show. Both shows were a successful outings. The River Rock show even netted the band there first pay day. The band recieved fifty dollars for playing for an hour. Several people there commentted that No Standard had out performed the band that followed them. That show was a great boost for the bands confidence. July, 2002: The band countinued to search for a bassist as tensions within the band began to grow. The members had always differed in there musical styles but had worked together giving and taking and believing that there differences would expand there collective musical effort. But in late July these differences finally brought the band to an uneasy decision and J B Poulos left the Band on Tuesday 30th. Aug, 2002: The band was again a two piece for two whole days until Thursday the 1st when M T Kelly came to audition for the bass position. Gibbs and Declute invited Kelly to join the band that night but it took Kelly until the next day to officially become the new bass player for No Standard and make the band a three piece again. The new bass player then practiced that Friday and again on Saturday morning because the band had signed up to play the community variety show at the Vassar Riverfest 2002 on Saturday the 3rd. No Standard played two songs with new bassist M T Kelly and were also joined by former rthyme guitarist J B Poulos for the variety show. The band was scheduled to play on the following Sat (Aug 10) at WiseGuys in Saginaw, Michigan, so the band focused for the next week bringing new their new bassist up to speed. That week Poulos also joined the practice because he was going to make that show his last. The night of the show came and the Chiotis Brother opened for the band from 10 to 11 p.m., then No Standard took the stage and played until 2 a.m., with a couple of breaks. Although the there was a very low turn out the band played well and were paid $100 for the night. The money would have been nice to keep but the arrangement with the sound man for WiseGuys before the night began was payment of $100. With the low turnout the band was thankful to break even. The night was not a total disappointment when they counted the money in the No Standard donation jar that band supporter Steve Smith had taken around the bar asking for donations. From this point the band had two future shows. The next show was cancelled due to the fact that the bar closed two weeks before they were scheduled to play(crazy). Disappointed but not discouraged the boys turnned there focus of recording a demo and the next show at CMU on September 15. Sept. 2002: The band was working hard on the demo trying to have it ready for sale at the CMU show that they were headlining when they learned that the show had been postponed in order to accommodate another band that had been joined the bill and to allow the promoter to secure additional funding. This postponement was a mixed blessing for the band. Although they were looking forward to the delayed date gave them more time to work on the demo. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BANDS
