Fall Semester – Times Change, Friends Stay The Same EP
Considering he’s still in high school, Fall Semester sings with wisdom far beyond his years. Not only is the musical content of this EP at once catchy and thought-provoking, but the lyrics are also wistful, capturing the ironic twist of how relationships may leave one in the dust, and how one person’s smile may linger in your mind for an irregularly long amount of time. The songs portray a realistic understanding of loneliness and disappointment, unlike the pop-fantastic Dashboard Confessional, to whom Fall Semester may be closely compared. Whereas Dashboard’s lyrics feel as though they are being spit out or randomly thrown at the listener in a stream-of-consciousness manner, Fall Semester’s work is far more sincere and precise – the lyrics are purposeful, and don’t lead the listener into any dead-ends or contradictions.
Fall Semester has skill in writing songs that are radio-friendly yet memorable; this is definitely an EP that I am proud to promote on the air. Fall Semester shows maturity in his lyrics and his music that is quite unique from the rest of the emo crowd. His manipulation of dynamic changes and rhythmical structures and his expressive, beautiful voice make the CD perfect for a quiet drive home or for calming the after-shock of a breakup. Fall Semester gives an amazing tour of the world through his eyes, and shows much promise for the future.
