Artist History
I started my music career playing trumpet in grade school. I took lessons from the beginning and practiced hard through High school making all manner of honor bands including all state. In my senior year I worked as a salesman at a local music store where I learned about keyboard technology, basics on playing and maintaining all band instruments, recording equipment, and lighting. One day I picked up an Applause guitar (cheap Ovation) and a beginner book and began to play. A few months later I got some friends together and we all picked an instrument locked ourselves in one of the larger rooms in the music store and made as much noise as possible. Out of the noisy session was born Fred the Band. It featured Fred Schmidt on bass and myself on guitar and drum machine. Our first and only gig was a slightly embarrassing performance at our senior party held by the high school.
Soon after Fred the band there was Panacea. We were together a few years and played a few times around Vacaville. The last gig was opening for a band that was going to be on the radio. I don’t remember now why that band broke up. The next group was the Iradicats, a bluesy SKA band that was actually going to make it before the whole thing broke up. Our last gig was at this huge bar in front of thousands of people opening for Let’s go bowling. The stage was six feet off the ground and in front a huge room just packed with people. And the gig just before that one was in this huge skate park playing with other SKA bands that were touring from other states. Come to think of it of all the bands I’ve been in the SKA scene seems to be the one that the fans back up the most. Well as soon as things got good everyone freaked out and the band broke up. Then there was a band in Berkeley called Captain Zohar. The music was challenging and different, but the Drummer was one of those pre-madana Neil Piert-wanna-bes that was more concerned with showing off rather then those silly little things like tempo, volume, and keeping the groove while the singer and song writer was really heavy into the Jewish faith and the Kabala which in itself isn’t unpleasant, it’s just not my thing. We were together for three years I think and practiced our songs into the ground. I remember listening to a recording that I made the first day I played with them and we sounded a lot better. After I quit that I got a few friends together and formed Inflatable Friends. It was fun and the music was enjoyable. But the other guys just weren’t dedicated enough so it ended.
Soon after I started my own solo project called MimeField and released my first album in September of 2002. I’m currently looking for another band to play in while I continue writing and performing my own music.
