Artist History
Robot Brown channels energy in the form of rock music - the kind of rock music that delivers it's message with a sense of adventure and sincerity not common on today's airwaves. Echoing the sounds of '80s alternative, and fitted with a modern edge, Robot Brown crafts big, moving rock songs full of melody. Out in front is the infectious language via the fluid, bittersweet voice of Russell Fincher. Shining vocal harmonies permeate the songs: triumphant vessels of observation and accomplishment, failure and recovery. Atmospheric, articulate guitar work by Gary Parks paints the listener's inner sky, while the band's contagious, pounding rhythmical dynamic is provided by Danny Rix on bass and Matt Hunt on drums. The band's sound has been described as bringing to mind The Cure, U2, Failure and Catherine Wheel with a lyrical and vocal style reminiscent of R.E.M. and The Posies, although Robot Brown has undoubtedly carved out a stylistic niche all their own.
"In a world of pop princesses and anger-management class rejects bellowing about their rotten lives, it’s nice to know we can turn to groups like The Strokes and the White Stripes for comfort. In that same effort of searching for something different, local ’80s rock inspired band Robot Brown delivers..." says Jenice Johnson, Scene writer for The University of Texas - Arlington's The Shorthorn.
The four members of Robot Brown share a unique history, having grown up and discovered music together in East Texas. Though the band was only recently formed, they are no strangers to live performance. Having experienced playing the Dallas rock club circuit as Stoneboy, the band's previous name, they played with major artists as well as headlined shows at many of the area venues from '95 to '98. In reforming as Robot Brown, they wanted to have a solid recording of their music before hitting the stage. After nine months of intense writing, rehearsing and recording exclusively, Robot Brown released their debut CD in September 2002. In previewing the CD, a listening party at which the band did not play was held at The Hard Rock Cafe Dallas, with over 150 eager fans and Industry in attendance. Robot Brown has now begun to perform live in the Dallas area. With a booming new fan base, strong internet presence and Stoneboy's still-dedicated following, along with matured songwriting abilities and
overwhelming energy, the members of Robot Brown are ready to continue on as far as the music will
take them.
Honesty, unforgettable hooks and originality are the engine for Robot Brown's musical vehicle. These virtues, as well as a passion for delivering high-energy live performances, are what propels Robot Brown. The band realizes that their ability to write meaningful, marketable and creative songs is what keeps them together... and looking ahead.
