Press Reviews
Album Review from The Amplifier.
"Shiny Round Thing Jesse Gilsinger (self-release)
Here’s a self-release worth the time to seek out by a Cincy musician who does all vocals and instruments (and deprecates his efforts in the liner notes). Lyrically, Gilsinger is worldly blas, deftly cutting, and irreverent, while his music runs the gamut from alt-flavored rock and pop to hushed acoustic intimacy. “Dollar Signs” is worth the whole CD, hilariously laying bare modern self-centeredness (“I don’t know who Yoko is/And if I don’t know then it don’t matter”) and the pursuit of cool (the subject’s parents obsess on breast enhancement and the little blue pill). Gilsinger’s stuff is often different, as in “I Tried to Run” (“Come on and bruise me ’til we’re intimate/Come on and break me if you’re into it”) and “Cosmonaut” about an overly fashion-conscious girl rather than a Russian space traveler. But he can write catchy, intelligent songs as well (“In Your Memory” and “You’re Mine”). Take a test drive at www.jessegilsinger.com, and don’t be surprised if you wind up buying one." Album Review from Mousa Genre Network Promotions.
"Released this passing 15 August 'shiny round thing' (a 'ten track hit', I call it). Featuring favourite song 'Voices'. 'Voices' is the ultimate hit that was voted twenty-three out of twenty-seven at a Mousa pre-release party. 'Voices' is a slight combination of crazy guitar synth schizoid percussion, with vocals that creep in like Robert Smith of The Cure at first...especially like the hit song 'Lovesong'. When first listening to this track, you're not quite sure what to expect. You're hit with a strong soft sultry of Robert Smith then it blooms into this hyped-mellowed pop tune. Like The Cure meets The Beatles only with more Robert Smith on vocals. You can imagine laying on a beach at a beach party with this playing in the background. "You're super crazy, your mind is hazy..... Just when you're feeling better.... you will hear those voices in your head....." We all have those voices in our heads. The question is, do we know what they are saying, what they are meaning? About the twelfth time listening to this track, it was clear to me ...... I can truly relate to these lyrics. I love songs like that, those are the best songs to have playing in your head. The other songs only, in my opinion, get better and better.... but I will leave that to you; go order the album and you will see.
Rate A" (written by Hawk Chavez)
