Artist History
The band was formed in 1997 but only gradually got the actival members
number (for a long time including 7 people, with 2 voices and trumpet or
sax, now only 5 people).
In 1998 the band recorded a demo and they won the Imola rock contest for
emergent bands in September. Even thanks to this victory they managed to
subscribe a contract with New LM Records, a Ravenna label. Under this label
their first cd came out in January 2000.
In the same year a new demo came out. It contains very important songs
for the band, like Circus or A dream made of water, and also a Hendrix's
cover, Crosstown traffic, completely revisited.
In 2000 the band came in second in the Premio Corriere contest, for the
best Romagna's band. In another contest, Musicattiva (spring 2001), they
came in third. In June 2001 Transgender played at the Sol Music Festival
(Palermo), and 2 songs are included in the Sol Music Compilation. Another
song was included before in the Flash Point Compilation, a promotional cd
edited by the californian label Flash Point Records.
One of the last labour of the band is almost a parallel project: in the
Etno Ambient Project for the first time the musical genres are limited to
ethnic and ambient music. There is also a remix of this project.
The new cd will be released in 2003, in Italy by Snowdonia, featuring
Eraldo Bernocchi (Bill Laswell’s friend, they work together in 2 projects),
and Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, famous italian singer. From this cd the band
will use a new language created by the singer Lorenzo Esposito.
Generally, Transgender's music is so varied: post-rock, alternative rock,
and even ethnic, electronic and jazz elements in a great way. Influences:
B.Laswell, Mr.Bungle, Radiohead, Laurie Anderson, Dead can dance, Lamb,
Deus, Tortoise, R.Fripp, Labradford and many others.
The band played concerts in several places like Area Sismica in Forlì,
T.P.O. and Circolo della Grada in Bologna, Nuova Galleria del Museo in Godo
(RA), Heineken Jammin' Festival for three years (platform for local bands),
Sol Music Festival (Palermo), in July 2003 the band played at Pistoia Blues,
very famous festival in Italy.
