Artist History Kathy has performed her way around the world as a singer, pianist, guitarist, and composer. Born in Ohio, she was influenced by her musical parents and began her classical piano studies at the age of nine. She studied voice while in high school with Parke Wayne Cooley and sang in a number of choirs and ensembles as well as a soloist. She began her guitar studies at fourteen and played the “coffee house” circuit. She continued her classical studies participating in classical music competitions while also playing in musicals. While in high school, she pursued her interest in jazz studying jazz piano with Mr. Pat Pace and composition with Mr. Phil Rizzo of The Modern School in Cleveland, Ohio. At the age of eighteen, she launched her professional career as a musician with a five-piece band in Tampa, Florida. Her intention at the time was to play music to pay for her college education. After attending Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio as a pre-med student, she reconsidered her career choice and decided to become a full-time musician. Kathy has twenty-five years of experience as a studio musician/vocalist and has composed music for radio and television commercials. She has been a member of various musical groups including, “The Lovin’ Bunch”, “Sunshine Two” and “The Kathy Fry Trio.” She has also been a feature performer on the theme park circuit and on cruise ships. Kathy has traveled extensively and performed internationally from clubs in New York, the Caribbean and the Far East. Since 1987, she has performed as a piano entertainer predominantly in Europe, playing at such clubs as Harry’s New York Bar at the Montreux Palace in Switzerland, The Grand Hotel Esplanade in Berlin and The Sheraton Hotel in Stockholm, Sweden. After winning the Wisconsin Area Music Industry’s 1999 CD contest, Kathy’s musical group, “Parallelle”, performed at Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Kathy presently performs at the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Kathy’s new CD,“You, The Night, The Music”, is scheduled for a December 2000 release. Kathy is co-owner of Parallelle LLC and Paralline Publishing, a music publishing company, with business partner, Attorney Charmaine Clowney. Realizing that many musicians lack an understanding of the complicated and often vague legal aspects of the music business, they successfully developed and taught a music business course through the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee’s Outreach Division. Kathy loves the notion of “music as the universal language.” She enjoys exploring the music and styles of other cultures and incorporates them into her own original music. Her repertoire is quite versatile and includes jazz, pop, musicals and country and western. She also performs her renditions of well-known composers such as Gershwin, Billie Holiday, Billy Joel and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
