Artist History
Nectar was formed 02.97 when non-brawling brothers Chris and Steve auditioned singer/guitarist Greg, who, through friends, heard of Scottish trapman extraordinaire Gerard, who joined the group after their first rehearsal together. Steve first started playing guitar when he could sneak some time on one of older brother Chris's guitars. He quickly became nauseatingly proficient and joined early jam sessions with Chris (on guitar also) and cousin Zed, who played drums. Since Chris was already playing guitar, Zed figured Steve may as well play bass, so he bought Steve a second hand bass which Steve took to like Jay Kay of Jamiroquai to a conveyor belt. Zed left and Greg and Gerard joined.
Nectar played their first show together in front of a sold out Barrymore's Music Hall in Ottawa and have been climbing ever since. Nectar began to record their debut CD Ambrosia at Sound of One Hand Studios in Ottawa with producer Marty Jones (FurnaceFace, Harvey Danger, etc). The much anticipated CD was released 11.98 to a sold out crowd at Barrymore's Music Hall, and has since sold over 900 copies (second print forthcoming!). They have shared the stage with The Grapes of Wrath, The Barstool Prophets and Hennessey among others and were finalists in Ottawa's 106.9 FM The Bear's RockSearch '98. They were voted by Ottawa readers as the Favorite New Band in Ottawa 1998 in The Ottawa XPress and have been featured in most major newspapers in Ottawa and Toronto. They have been filmed several times by Rogers Cable TV and are producing their first independent video.
