Artist description
Living in Arcata, on the beautiful redwood coast of California, Makageddon is dedicated to bringing reggae music to all of Humboldt County. The unique island of Jamaica, and the communities that started the era of reggae music, have grown and spread across the world. Now a new era of reggae artists are continuing to add to and unify the reggae community and people of all races. As American artists we seek to add our unique experience to the world of reggae music.Kiriki Delany, from Berkeley, CA, is the founding member of Makageddon as well as keyboard player and producer. "Our goal is to entertain and play reggae music. Reggae has a powerful message. It1s an old style of music played in a new way. The invention of electric instruments has moved tribal music into a new evolutionary era. Religious experience doesn1t happen in church anymore, it happens on the dance floors and music halls around the world." Morgan Larue, also from Berkeley is the wicked guitar player and co-producer. "Makageddon is a hard hitting new sound that combines a fresh blend of organically grown roots rock and dancehall style reggae. Cooked medium-rare, Makageddon's reggae is seasoned with Hendrix-Santana style melodies and Superfly skunky funky rhythms, marinated in the Nyabinghi tradition of Jah Rastafari.Makageddon is sure to congregate and gyrate the hips of those that want to dance and who love reggae music." Paul Stevenson, also from the bay area is the bass player and a veteran of the Humboldt music scene. While thumping the bass for Makageddon, Paul also brings in the sweet horn lines on saxophone alongside another local band Dr Jiveslice. Kicking it with Paul, Alex jams down the hardcore roots and dancehall beats. A hard-hitting drummer, Alex completes the drum and bass section for the solid reggae riddims. Our secret weapon, Scott Nobriga brings out the rhythm on phat congas and percussion. From Nyabinghi to soca and Caribbean polyrythym, Scott can always be found beating the roots and heartbeat of the dancehall. |
