Artist History
In the summer of 1993, three young musicians convened in a boiling hot West Oakland warehouse and formed the trio now known as Froggy. Fusing elements of early 80’s British pop and 70’s post-psychedelic rock, Froggy began purely as an outlet for guitarist Adam Twain, drummer and vocalist Alex Pearcy and bassist John Thiel, to explore and weave their wide variety of musical influences into a unique tapestry of sound. In the summer of 1996, Froggy refined its music and performance while working the clubs of Portland Oregon. The tour proved a turning point for the group, who upon return to the Bay Area performed with dynamic. Froggy’s atmospheric pop sound had become tightly focused, its performances solidly engaging. With the addition of Matt Twain on keyboards and vocals in 1998, Froggy took the act to San Rafael’s Groove Room to capture their music on tape. The resulting debut effort offers a true alternative to music fans. The seven song CD sampler from Froggy’s forthcoming debut release showcases the band’s musical brilliance, combining pop sensibilities, haunting atmospherics, and intense rock energy. Froggy’s sound stretches as far into rock’s past as it does into its future. Froggy’s powerful mixture of moody, psychedelic guitar work, strong dynamics, and darkly romantic vocals have helped to create a style that is both familiar and new. With the new seven song CD sampler and an upcoming CD release, Froggy has solidified its reputation throughout the Bay Area as a band to watch. |
