Artist History
Boston's Cloud Art has been offering their unique flavor of modern alternative rock to audiences throughout the New England and New York area for the past year. With two former members of SandOze, the band has been able to maintain a well established following while watching it grow at the same time. By mid-1998, Chris Nolin (voice/guitar) and Seth Major (bass) had moved from Burlington, VT to Boston and had begun writing music of a different flavor than that of their former band. With the addition of Scott Therrien (drums/voice) and Scott Harris (guitar), a new sound called Cloud Art had officially taken form. Their music, derivative of the emo-alternative style, incorporates inventive song structures and powerful dynamics. Within a song, the four evoke everything from introspective, melodic tranquility to driving, ethereal intensity that carefully avoids the modern hard rock cliché. The band has had quite an eventful winter and spring, with the release of their debut EP, Trick of the Light (North of January Records), and their ongoing tour schedule. Back in October, they were one of five Boston bands selected to perform in the "Quit Your Day Job" contest sponsored by MARS Music. In November, Cloud Art performed in a showcase sponsored by WGIR 101.1 FM of Manchester, NH, and advanced to the semi-final round later that month. And in December, "Dashes", Cloud Art's first single, made it on the Good Citizen Radio Hour Vol. II compilation, which has been licensed to air on MTV's 'Road Rules' and ABC-TV's 'Making the Band'. |
