Group Members
E.J. Jones has played the Highland bagpipe since age eleven and has been in the prize lists of the U.S. Piping Foundation and the Nicol-Brown Chalice. He attended the World Pipe Band Championships with the Hamilton Pipe Band when they placed first in the Grade Three Competition. E.J.'s playing is the result of years spent in traditional study; his imagination and orchestration open up new avenues for the band in Celtic music.Jennifer Hamel has been captivating audiences with her voice and guitar work as she lends her unique sound to both traditional songs and the original pieces she creates for Clandestine. Gregory McQueen has been playing the fiddle longer than he will admit. He toured Europe with the Irish band Dalriada. When offered the opportunity to play with the pipes and collaborate with Jennifer's unique songwriting and vocal ability, he joined Clandestine in 1994. The challenge of playing with the Highland pipes and crossing the bridge of Jennifer's original songs has been a very rewarding experience for both Gregory and the audience.Emily Dugas joined Clandestine in 1996, and her talents in percussion and vocals are adding depth and richness to the band. She has been active in theatre, music, songwriting and stagework for over ten years. |

Press Reviews
"Powerful stuff, beautiful stuff." - Dirty Linen, February 1998 Creative Loafing April 1999 / Charlotte, NC / Article by Gene HydeNo Secret to Clandestine's Success "Clandestine is quickly becoming one of the hottest Celtic bands insome time, racking up awards and critical acclaim in both Europe andAmerica for the last several years. Their success lies in the factthat they've managed a creative coup in Celtic music: Their tunes notonly ring with a traditional familiarity, the band also sparkles witha strikingly original collective voice." Xemplary Music Reviews (http://www.xemplary.net): "Miners Lullaby" is the best cut on a terrific album. "Peggy" (from the CD "To Anybody At All") and "The Haunting" (from the CD, "The Haunting") have been featured in the genre on MP3.com and they are very fine indeed, but I'm also partial to "Babylon" (from the CD "To Anybody At All"). The band boasts two wonderful vocalists, Jennifer Hamel and Emily Dugas. Hamel is also the guitarist and sings most of the leads. She writes the music for much of the band's work. Dugas is equally talented as a drummer. E.J. Jones is a champion piper and his bagpipes and flutes are unrivaled. You'll fall in love with Gregory McQueen's fiddling. The band's music is traditional, but has a beat, as well, that modern audiences will enjoy. |
