Artist History
Before they formed Catharsis, Jeff, Carlos, and Randy got together in 1995 to record "Little Iron Pancacke", a song featured in Jeff's first short film. The chemistry was so perfect that the trio decided to get a few more songs under their belts to play at a party for Jeff's sister, Riki, in 1996. The show was a success and Catharsis has continued to play various venues in Orange County and Los Angeles, including the famed 'Coconut Teaszer' in Hollywood, California. Catharsis continues to play shows in the Southern California area, so keep an eye on the calendar for future events. |

Press Reviews
-=From "Jagged" (www.jaggedmag.com), April 2000=-\Ca*thar"sis\, n. 1. A purging of emotional tensions,2. The union of three very talented friends from southern California, to form one smoking band! This trio's debut album contains half a dozen superlative tracks. What does Catharsis put on the plate in "Little Iron Breakfast"? Songs like "So Many Friends," "I want Jane," "Glass Box," "Sister Sit Back," "Little Iron Pancake" and "Back to Boston." The themes of the songs run the gamut from obsession, infidelity to ex-girlfriends. The threesome, comprised of Jeff Garvin, Carlos Rivera, Jr. and Randy Catiller, first got together five years ago to record the single, "Little Iron Pancake." Jeff is the man when it comes to vocals, lyrics and guitar, while Randy keeps a killer rhythm on drums and Carlos fills it in with sanguine bass lines.Want a taste of "Little Iron Breakfast"? Check out some of the lyrics from "So Many Friends," where Catharsis repines about promiscuity destroying the sanctity of friendship. When I turn around/my chair is gone/ I'm forced to stand on the threshold/ and watch all the people fall/ deep inside my heart/ there is a place/ there is a space/ with blue lines and a ramp and a smile/ for my crippled thoughts of you.Catharsis will seduce you with their intoxicating blend of mellifluous vocals, clever lyrics and sweet melodies (with just a twist of bitterness). Even if you don't know the words, you'll find yourself compelled to sing along as your foot keeps rhythm with the driving beats. My complaint about this album: there just isn't enough of a good thing. I want Jane and I want more! The boys will be releasing a new album by the end of this summer. Check them out at /artists/47/catharsis.htmlRachel has developed a taste for little iron pancakes, and hopes a daily infusion will cure her anemia. E-mail the writer at: leadingveg@yahoo.com |
