Press Reviews
8/99 - www.tampabay.citysearch.com In the works since 1995, these St. Petersburg natives are funking up the home of death metal with their high-energy fusion of thrash, rap, funk, and alternative. Think Red Hot Chili Peppers mixed with 311 and a bit of Fishbone thrown in for good measure. Many aspiring musicians make the fatal mistake of not just following in the footsteps of their idols, but blatantly ripping them off. Yet 28 Gates haven't just consumed and regurgitated these bands' styles, but have created their own trademarked funk/hip hop hybrid. Fluid rapping and strong vocals are layered on top of heavy beats, a smooth bassline, and driving guitars. See this band live?their energy is almost as infectious as their grooves. Considering that they haven't been together in their current incarnation that long, they play like seasoned musicians, working together flawlessly. |
