Artist History
‘Doubting the redemptive power of schizoid pop? Serial POP will change your mind” - NME.
‘Like New Order, Blur, Devo and Captain Beefheart swapping ideas and insults over a lethal cocktail of alcoholic beverages." – Radio One.
Serial P.O.P first crashed onto the London scene late last year with the highly acclaimed ‘Fuck You Jack We’re Fireproof EP’. A limited release of only 3,000 copies that in the words of the NME ‘rocked like Everest and popped like Pepsi’, grabbed the attention of those who needed to notice.
Picked up on pretty sharpish by XFM, their EP was played to death on the London station and was soon noted by Radio 1 with some mighty fine commendations across the board. Jumped on early by the NME their tale of existence was introduced in ON.
Following a series of UK dates that kept them in frequent demand around East London’s disposable party scene US label Good Science whisked them back off to L.A to record their 2nd EP – ‘Health and Safety’ and a forthcoming album.
Living a life of decadent poverty Serial P.O.P originally formed in London by Edinburgh brothers George and Tom McFall. While in their early teens, the McFall brothers began performing together in various Edinburgh bands. At age 15, the bands vocalist George joined Edinburgh’s legendary medieval-punk-cabaret band, Dominic Waxing Lyrical, with whom he spent two years touring squats and fetish clubs in Holland and Germany. Tom, meanwhile, moved to London and concentrated on making electronic music.
George eventually joined his brother in London, and the duo began laying the foundation for what would become Serial P.O.P.’s first demos. On bass, they enlisted Dave Simandi, former drummer for Dominic Waxing
Lyrical, and for drums they brought on Stu Bastiman, who had played with George in Rancher, an Edinburgh “country/hip-hop” outfit. As Serial P.O.P., the four musicians nonchalantly potent lyrics and unforgettable hooks have spurged forth some explosively charged electronic pop-rock, that has a distinct fuck you attitude all of its own. The bands musical influences include: -Magazine, Derrick May, The Fall, Soft Cell, Scott Walker and Renegade Soundwave
