Maloze bio by Rich:
I was looking for a band in the Spring of 2002 when Tim returned my phone call about the “drummer wanted” ad that I had inquired about. I deleted his message by accident before I wrote down the number. Typical. Then Chris called me the next day after a long day of day-job hell.
He cheered me right up. He said, “We kinda sound like the Stooges squished through a mid 90’s Brit-pop filter. We’re a little crazy sometimes. We’re kinda garage but not really. We’re kinda punk but not really. You interested?”
Of course I was. We set up a practice in Red Bank, New Jersey. We met in a bar beforehand where I was instructed to look for the “skinny rock guys in the corner.” I found them pretty easily based on this description. They drank cheap beer, I knew I was going to fit right in. When we got to the studio, I was nervous and sweaty but after hearing one riff, I kicked in on the drums and everyone followed suit.
Boom. Band. maloze.
For a rock trio plus singer, we sounded huge. Babbage’s bass was low and meaty. Tim’s guitar was grainy and distorted, he didn’t use any effect pedals… ever. Chris’ vocals were growling and forceful at times, melodic at others.
The first goal… learning their songs. The second goal… writing new songs. The third goal… playing some shows. The fourth goal… recording this racket. The fifth goal… having The Hives and The Vines open up for us.
So, now, we call Red Bank, NJ our home. We’ve just released our EP, "more love the murder" and we're back to playing shows. Stay tuned.
