Artist description
TJ Scott is a classically trained soprano who grew up doing musical theatre. Though she doesn't limit herself to any of those things. Instead, chooses to use her knowledge of the voice to create soulful, angelic vocals to her meaningful, diverse lyrics over pop/urban style productions. Even though most of her songs are written with depth and a positive message and one could even go as far as to say they are a bit controversialin, she still makes sure to mix in some "fun & love" as well.

Artist History
TJ Scott was born on January 29th, 1981 in a small town in Colorado. As a child she loved to sing, act and dance but was too shy to ever really do anything about it. Even so, her natural vocal ability was already apparent at age 7, scoring her many solos in church choir productions.
The first year she decided to try out traditional dance classes at age 9, she took home the #1 Dancer Of The Year award from her dance school and was asked to travel to Florida for further study with her dance instructor, declining because of her young age. She has also been part of a Messianic Jewish Dance group since 1993 (Yeshuas Dancers). They have performed at churches, provided lessons, as well as been the "entertainment" for many Passover's and other Messianic celebrations.
Even though life has always been "musical" for TJ, her love for singing/performing arts didn't completely surface until she was 15 and auditioned for her first musical at Jesters Dinner Theatre. She was cast as chorus and everything exploded from there. She began voice lessons shortly after that production, and as her voice & confidence blossomed she began getting cast as lead roles. TJ adds with a laugh "...I had no business playing most of those roles at my age, but I certainly wasn't going to argue..." Life became musical theatre for her; she was having the time of her life at that point.
Naturally this recognition of talent sparked her interest in pursuing performing arts further. After graduating from a small private school at age 17, putting her previous plans of majoring in Equine Medicine and minoring in Journalism on hold, she started researching performing art's programs. She decided on The American Musical & Dramatic Academy in New York City, auditioned and was accepted but her time there was short lived… "It wasn't what I was expecting at all. There were a few too many questionable occurances in such a short time of my being there that I didn't feel comfortable paying to stay there. It's a long story, but basically I just wanted more structure for my education". After many discussion's with her parents, she decided to withdrawal and go back home for the time being.
Since leaving AMDA she has taken up voice lessons again, performed in a few Musicals and plays, but TJ's main focus is getting her solo music career on the move. TJ notes: "... I decided to pursue a singing career when I started writing lyrics & melodies that people were really responding to in a positive way. Realizing that I could write them specifically for my voice to sing, exactly the way I heard it in my head, was very liberating & exciting! Especially now. I am getting more "gutsy" with what I write about; I'm really expressing myself in my songs. Musical theatre was different; I was always acting as if I was someone else. I liked that for a while, but now I am ready to get down to me, use my talents to show people who I really am, and what I stand for. To write and sing my own music fills me with a joy that nothing ever has".
TJ still has aspirations of a musical theatre career & even opera, if it were to ever to work out, but for now she wants to concentrate on her music, her way & hope people want to hear it.
A few additional goals this determined 21 year old has her mind set on (as well as a notable singing career and Broadway stardom) include; many "good cuase" foundations baring her name, her own record label of sorts that will be geared to help unsigned artists in a way most labels aren't today and extravagant plans for a Bed & Breakfast/Dinner Theatre that she will own, run and provide direction for when she retires from the stage. "Somewhere in the middle of all that..." she adds "...I very much want to get married and start a family, as well as maybe do some correspondance studies & obtain a degree". At this point that is not a big issue to TJ. "...I have never struggled academically, I have plenty of time to get a degree in anything I want when I can hopefully afford to pay for it!"
Currently, TJ is having a blast north of the border in Montreal, working on her first professionally recorded demo and trying to learn as much about the industry as possible before she dives in. "...I want to do so much in the future, I need to make sure I have all my basis covered for that to be possible. It takes a lot to get yourself ready for anything in the entertainment industry but especially when you want to succeed in multiple area's of it! I have A LOT to learn & prepare for, but I am ready to try anything right now". And that is where she stands today... Ready for anything & doing what she needs for herself & her career. |
