Artist History
I'm Marisa "Guitgrrl" Salazar, and I have been playing the guitar for a great number of years. At the tender age of five, my parents discovered me playing Beatles' and Monkees' songs note for note on my baby guitar. Some what alarmed, they immediatley enrolled me in guitar lessons. I had some of the strictest teachers(Mark Reinhardt of Berkley and Timmy Imbert of Jay and the Americans)but learned a great deal from them. Additionally, I also played violin with the Hazelton Philharmonic Orchestra and studied classical piano with Ms. Coyle from Julliard and Curtis Institiute. In high school I played in the rock bandStrider.
After high school and a brief stint at the University of Pittsburgh, I moved to Philadelphia to go to school and pursue my musical dreams. I studied Physical Therapy but finally realized this might not be my true calling when one of my patients pointed out that I was treating the wrong arm.
Eventually I joined the band Fake ID/Project Suze-Ko(founder Suze Stewart). We played throughout the Philadelphia and Southern Jersey music scenes. After several years, I decided to hang up the band shoes and finally acquire my Bachelor's Degree in Music with a concentration in Music Therapy. At Immaculata College, I had the pleasure of studying guitar with Russell Ferrara as well as gaining a strong foundation in music theroy.
