Artist description
Combining psychedelic textures, raw sensuality and provocative lyrics, Picasso's Radio may well be the bridge between Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath and Nirvana. Capturing such a sound is far from an easy feat, but this Austin trio has done so and with intriguing results. With front man, Segis Ramirez on guitar/vocals, Shawn Alvear on drums and Janelle Ramirez handling bass chords, the band is able to mirror many of its diverse influences without completely surrendering to one genre or another.
The key is in the band's overall chemistry. Each member compliments each other with the right amount of energy and volume. Likewise, Ramirez lyrical imagery is a solid fit for the primal riffs, dense rhythms and ethereal melodies. In an age where rock has been revamped and marketed in a variety of different formats, Picasso's Radio offers something completely new.
By deconstructing each of their individual influences, Segis, Shawn and Janelle have created a sound that's enchanting and timeless. But to comprehend the magic that is Picasso's Radio, one has to experience the band in concert. As a live act, the band displays a sense of urgency that will electrify any audience. |

Artist History
Segis Ramirez (Vocals/Guitar) - Born in Houston, TX and raised in Brownsville, Segis expressed a deep interest in music when he turned 14. Although he wanted to play the drums, his family bought the only instrument they could afford...a bass guitar. Playing for several years with bands as a bass player, and finally the vocals, Segis took an interest in the guitar when other guitar players were not playing what he had heard in his head. He bought his first guitar when he was 19 and headed off to Dallas from the Valley to pursue his music career. He played with and wrote songs with a band called Lava for a couple of years. Finally in 1998, Segis met up with Drew Baker, a drummer, who was interested in Segis' style of music and there formed Picasso's Radio.
Shawn Alvear (Drums) - Shawn joined Picasso's Radio in December of 2001 as the permanent drummer after the departure of Drew Baker. Playing drums for the majority of his life, Shawn's drumming style took Picasso's Radio to another level. His heavy hitting drumming, influenced by Jon Bonham and Neil Peart, has made every song come alive with energy and volume.
Janelle Ramirez (Bass) - Janelle met Segis in 1995 when her high school friends invited her to watch their band, Lava, practice. She became friends with Segis who inspired her to buy a bass guitar. When Segis and Drew (Picasso's Radio original drummer) formed Picasso's Radio in 1998, the two of them decided to move to Austin in 1999 and Janelle followed. After months of trying to find a bass player, Janelle volunteered to learn the bass lines and play with Picasso's Radio until they found a permanent bassist. Unbeknownst to anyone, Janelle's versatile technique would play a major role in Picasso's Radios style.
