Artist History
Always moved by music, Roby spent many of his young years in church choirs, and many hours playing the family piano. Growing up in Zambia, Roby had many different sounds to draw his musical inspirations from: the air waves were filled with the songs of the great British blues bands like Cream and Led Zeppelin, as well as Bob Marley’s socially conscious Reggae, while Sundays were dominated by energetic Zambian church music. When Roby left Zambia for India, he traded the church choir and the piano for the guitar and a band with schoolmates. Failing to find the right sound, however, he began to make music on his own after a move to America. The catalyst: a trip to California during which he was handed a Stevie Ray Vaughan CD. “I was blown away… absolutely amazed… I went right out and bought myself a fender strat and got down to the serious business of making music.” The end result – a 13-track CD – three of which are captured on his demo, “The Wanderer’s Raag.” |

Press Reviews
Roby has also taken his songs to live audiences in local pubs and caf’s on open mike nights where the response has been equally exciting. His ability to surprise a crowd with a different sound, not the typical folksy, coffee shop music so often associated with musicians with a philosophical bend and a guitar got around, and Roby’s reputation as a guitarist and songwriter grew. Soon, he was selling demo CDs and receiving offers to perform at high profile local events such as the Denver Highland Square Street Fair. A true performer, Roby has the power to bring a crowd to their feet with his soulful voice and expert guitar play. |
