Artist description
The Musical Scriptures formula of composition involves the placement of the Holy Bible to music in a precise format. The syllables of words are assigned to a pre-determined cyclical pattern of notes derived from ancient scales and modes (Ionian, Mixolydian, etc.), giving each song its individuality. The length of the note is determined by the importance of the word (for example, 'Lord' would receive at least a half note, and 'the' a much shorter note), and rests are assigned to pauses in the text. In essence, Emilian Czyrski has developed a one-of-a-kind technique of programmatic composition that has allowed the Bible to essentially compose music by itself! This fact has led to the composer occasionally referring to himself as a 'scribe' rather than a composer.
The vocalist (in this case, the composer himself) reads the words precisely in time with the notes, using a tonal quality of voice known as 'perfect pitch'. The combination of words and tones provides the listener with a truly unique experience which is only appreciated after repeated listenings. Ths is due to the fact that the compositional technique is like nothing ever done before, and sounds very foreign to the unaccustomed ear. Eventually, the devoted listener is entreated to a musical experience like no other, being able to enter a meditational state where the message of the Word is reflected on as words join notes in perfect harmony. In addition, the tonal quality adds greatly to the listener's ability to recall and recite the words of scripture on one's own.
These Musical Scriptures have been composed over the past twenty years, and have only recently become available to the public on World Youth Day 2002. We are sure that you find this music unique, meditational, and inspiring.

Artist History
Composer Emilian J. Czyrski was born in Western Ukraine. He immigrated to Montreal, Canada as a young child, where he developed his appreciation and knowledge of musical forms. Choosing spiritual music over other carnal forms, he developed a method of placing the Holy Bible to ancient musical scales. This technique has continued over the past 20 years, and during this time, he has transcribed all of the Psalms, the Gospels, the Book of Revelation, the Song of Songs, and various other parts of the New and Old Testaments. He continues his work in a reclusive fashion in Toronto, Canada, and is currently working on a book of spiritual thoughts and inspirations. |
