Artist History Arthur Weiss is a member of the Lagraine family, which includes famous artists such as Django Reinhart and Birelli Lagraine. His father is from Tunis,Tunisia and his mother's family is form Italy. His family had one of Europe's most famous circus troupes. His mother was a high wire artist, and had been offered a position in the Ringling Bros. circus at the outset of WWII, but was unable to leave Europe due to the strife there. Arthur thus grew up in the circus environment, and began performing on musical instruments from an early age. He rode elephants and helped in the daily workings of the circus from the age of five on. When he was sixteen he traveled to London to perform for a year with Curtis Mayfield who introduced him to singers Sam and Dave, who in turn introduced him to their current bassist, the legendary Jaco Pastorius. This meeting led to an interest in the seminal fusion group Weather Report, led by Austrian keyboardist Joe Zawinul. Zawinul helped out with contacts for musicians in New York, who would later perform on his debut recording session, produced with his longtime partner Uwe Gehring. Uwe has gone on to work with artists such as Gato Barbieri, Toots Thielman and Pat Metheny. The sessions in New York resulted in an album entitled "Instinct Traveler," and included the following personnel: Najee, Steve Thornton, John Hammond, Mike Stern, Uwe Gehring, R.D. Schnapka

Additional Info We will be developing new material for a CD over the next 6 months. During this time Arthur, Jimmy James and Dione Rhodes, Gnyus , PAPAart will be doing an asian tour, to return in late spring. A European tour is being planned for the summer.
