Artist description Orchis are an original band, carefully crafted with a distinctive style. The unique blend of haunting female vocals, twisting melodies, conscious lyrics and catchy guitar riffs combine with contrasting emotion to make Orchis shine. The band formed early in 2002 and comprises of Mel Dunford (vocals), Nick Williams (guitar), Neil Challis (bass/vocals) and Dan Pitman (drums/percussion). The music of Orchis has a consistent style. With sounds that vary from heart warming to mind blowing, the song writing of Challis & Williams draws inspiration from a vast range of artists including the Smashing Pumpkins, Skunk Anansie, David Bowie, Coldplay, REM and Neil Finn, to name but a few. Despite being in its infancy, the band has established a mature foundation. An outstanding debut performance in their home town of Yeovil was only strengthened by the recording of the ‘Perfect Gift’ EP in September. The EP’s four tracks have received nothing but glowing praise and form a showcase for the musical roller coaster that Orchis have to offer.
