Artist description
Progressive/melodic Trance is probably the best
way to describe bellypan's sound, but his influences
come from a variety of sources and eras. Some tracks
are more down beat for example, and are more chilled/after
hours sounding. All have a basis in Trance though as
listening will reveal. The common link thoughout
is melody and QUALITY production. No sparse distorted
breaks here... this is full, intricate, orchestrated
music for the thinker, as well as the clubber. |

Artist History
bellypan's musical education started early -
'Growing up in my family, everyone was doing
something to do with music'. His parents were
heavily involved in Opera, while his elder brother
would punish him with 70s Punk. 'I grew up being
very aware of song structure and form', bellypan
says, 'I continually broke music up into it's
Parts and anaylised how it all fitted together'.
After his first keyboard purchase at aged 15, that
was it. Bellypan continued to perfect his playing
and programming skills until joing his brother in
London aged 21 to form SWING. 'We were a kind of
Indie/Dance outfit', bellypan explains. 'My brother
would bring the guitar and Rock side to the group,
and I would bring the House piano and samples'.
The band gigged for four years around London,
picked up Management along the way and even
recorded a single. Due to various 'financial'
and 'personnel' problems, the single was never
released and the group disbanded. Bellypan then
consentrated on his solo work recording his own
material and developing his sound. A seminal
record for bellypan was in 1995 when he heard BT's
- Loving You More. 'I Just stopped what I was
doing and looked at the radio with an open mouth'
he says 'I could not beleive it. It hit every
button I could think of and I knew that was my
future'. Several demos and re-mixes for friends
bands followed and in 2000 formed Allergic
Recordings as launch pad for his music and
other project too. This brings you pretty much up
to date. |
