Artist description
Marc Witmer, a classically trained pianist, discovered jazz, fusion, and funk at High School in Houston, Texas. As a teenager, he studied Jazz composition & arranging with the Stan Kenton orchestra; in addition, he was recognized as a player at Piano competitions in Houston and as a composer in statewide competition. His B.A. in Music Composition and Masters in Music Theory were both earned at the University of Texas in Austin where Marc and his family have lived for 15 years.
He has been the music director at CrossPointe, a dynamic church in Austin since 1990, bringing his jazz style to the contemporary worship service.
Christian music continues to be a priority with jazz interpretations dominating, due to the influences of free-form pianists Chick Correa and Keith Jarrett. Now that his son is in college, Marc has recorded two solo piano CDs and is the creative force for the Austin smooth jazz group, Fire by Night. He continues to compose inspirational, jazz, and contemporary Christian music, whether for an audience or for only him and his Lord.
