Artist History
Despistado
Bitingly bitter, cold Saskatchewan winters and heat that hits your chest
heavier than a Mac truck is not for everyone. Fortunately for all music
fans, it does lend to the flow of some serious creative juices and energetic
performances. The prairies breed stellar bands - no challenging that statement from any
rabid, Canadian indie fan. Then it is no surprise that a fine, young band from Regina, Saskatchewan peeled out of the gates of rock during their first show in early 2002 and Despistado has yet to look back. Comprised of the standard four-piece, bass (Joel Passmore), drums (Brenan Schwartz) and double guitar action (Leif Thorseth and Dagan Harding), the average music buff might stroll into a club knowing exactly what to
expect. But this isn't your run-of-the-mill act. Despistado is a band ready and willing to bite you in the butt and shock the life back into your melted cranium. The foursome's history began in October of 2001 with the solidification of a musical style amongst friends. The result was angular, very danceable rock that quickly left Despistado commanding various stages in and around their hometown. An ever growing fan-base followed as kids started to appreciate the band's on-stage energy and the progressive, up-beat sound they brought to the scene. Despistado walked into the studio in June of 2002 and jolted out with an exceptional, 6-song, self-released album aptly named 'the emergency response EP'. The off-stage sales have led to a repressing of the album and the
band continues to sway audiences and garner deserved recognition. A recent west coast jaunt saw the band sharing stages with bands like Chore, Moneen, Honeysuckle Serontina, Black Rice, Ghosts of Modern Man, Mico, Means to An End and Filmmaker. The future for Despistado is clear, this music deserves to be heard. A complete Canadian tour is in the works for fall 2003 and the band's DIY ethic will see them playing their intense and eccentric rock whether demanded by crowds or by one solitary kid in the back of a venue somewhere between here and nowhere.
