Artist History
TREP ( The Red Eye Project)
The Basics:
We have been a three piece band for around six years and have been playing live for about five and a half. We started with experimental sound and have slowly moved through the gambit of Electronic dance styles to end up with a murky, thick psy-trance sound. We have always worked toward live sound production and have not really set down in the studio to create an album. This is scheduled for this winter, now that we all agree on the current sound. The largest misconception about what we do is that we are a band, we are not DJ's and there is no use records or CDs when we play.
What we are about:
TREP is focused around a central theme of conceptual expansion through perceptual saturation. The more that we experience the broader our perceptual framework grows.
The broader or perceptual framework becomes the concepts resulting from that framework also broaden. There is an infinite amount of possible perceptual triggers, we chose music due to our individual and collective appreciation of rhythm and sound. We attempt to incorporate the variations of our individual experiences in order to create a unified texture that not only exists as itself but also as the three parts that comprise the singular texture. Accordingly odds are against us ever playing the same show twice. Different moods or experiences within the individuals or the collective tend to distort the gravity that forces the sound out of the speakers. Each day is a new day. Each Show is a new show. Each and every experience is unique. We attempt to capitalize on the chaos involved with dynamic beings absorbing a dynamic universe in order to elevate the audience and ourselves to place that has never been visited. There is a certain joy in feeling vulnerable as a result of the unfamiliar. That is the joy we try to bring. Once what is known is released it becomes possible to know more and more. Without breaking free from the shackles of our own experiences we will not be able to grow beyond those experiences. If we do not grow beyond the confines of our pasts we will become nothing more than prisoners of our memories and our ability to act freely as individuals will be hindered accordingly. Shared experience can be wonderful but if it leads to conceptual complacency and mediocrity, it is a hindrance to the species. Perhaps we should be less comfortable in the universe. Perhaps we really have no clue.
Our Goal:
We are trying to push sound further than it has been pushed before. We are not just after the "next big thing" in electronic dance, but more so, we are on a mission to push the concept of sound design to the next level. |
