Artist History
The band started when me (Splinter) and a mate Baz, due to some intense Green Day listening decided to start a band. It was 1997 sometime. The problem was we didn't have a guitarist. The search began but didn't take long, I had known Will since we were like six or seven years old and our families used to go Karate classes together. As well as a keen guitarist Will was a black belt And could grow an impressive afro, these vital factors along with a shit drummer and a fat bass player that watched football on TV during practice, led to as you can imagine some pretty awesome instrumental numbers."Jaded" which was the bands name at this point, decided for some reason that we needed another guitarist perhaps this was because we needed another competitor in the battle for title of worst musician. "Tommy the Rock" fellow skate buddy and Buckinghamshire loudmouth also renowned for his legendary T.W.T.M (Tom Wright Trade Mark) became the fourth member, Rhythm Guitar. Then not really bothered that we didn't have a singer we continued to jam at Baz's house until we came to our senses and began a quest for a vocalist. This was the hardest task we had encountered so far we auditioned mate after mate and after much hassle and argument including Baz exiting the band and Tom trading his sixteenth century banjo for a bass guitar we agreed to a guy called Steph. I think we must have all been pissed at the time. Anyway there was no time to continue the hunt, our first gig had been set and we were determined to make our debut. We changed our name to Skirtbox and knew we were fucked when Steph was seen constantly toing and froing up and down the stage reciting his out of time screeching version of our well thought out really great lyrics. Anyway after a glass being thrown and a handful of "Yeh! And your Mum" Jokes from Steph to the crowd it was time to rethink our motives for ever starting the band.Time passed with not much happening apart from a weekly name change, we devoted most of our time to skating and girls, with injuries resulting in both areas. We eventually began to practice again and a new line up evolved, with an introduction to what was to become, our biggest headache yet Jondo, Hawkins, Universal bullshitter joins the band as second guitarist (this time we had worked out how to use two). Will Mongfish also decided to sing and play guitar and me and the Rock had learnt to play our instruments to a reasonable standard. Apart from hating each other 99% of the time we managed to piece together a set list and started gigging again. We changed our name back to Skirtbox and began the long, long climb to recognition. We're still climbing. Somehow we've managed to record an EP on Hectic Records called "Way Out There" released October 2000. Cheers hope to see you at future shows. Splinter
