    Artist description
Bernard A. Williams was born 40 years ago to Charlie F. and the late Catherine V. Williams. He was one of ten children and grew up in a very religious home where the family faithfully attended Ebenezer Baptist Church. Williams grew up singing in the Junior Choir and was always fascinated by his Aunt Albertine, who played the organ for all the church services for as long as he can remember. When he later began taking the piano lessons he had always longed for, he developed a love for all music. Still, he felt drawn to religious and gospel songs because he felt they gave more hope to the listeners. His mother was always in the Senior Choir and seemed to master every song she sang. She gave Williams both encouragement and constructive criticism, which he learned to value from her. Never dreaming that he would become a singer, Williams' first solo as a teenager was "God Is So Good." He was pleasantly surprised at the positive reception from his listeners. Williams has remained very active in the church where he is a lead singer in the Senior Choir and served a two - year term as the director of the Male Chorus. A great deal of his time is spent singing in nursing homes, jails, schools, and churches in the surrounding Alabama and Georgia communities. He also sings as a member of several Praise and Worship Teams in the local area. Williams has devoted his life to spreading the gospel in song no matter what the occasion or where the location might be -- a social event, a church setting, afamily gathering, over the hills of Lookout Mountain, or even down on the shores of Mobile Bay -- because he can remember that his mother would always tell him "It's time to be about your Father's business." Williams' favorite saying is "If I can help somebody as I Pass along, if I can cheer somebody with a word or a song, if I can tell somebody when they are traveling wrong, then my living shall not be in vain." In the fall of 1998, Williams recorded a CD entitled: "Songs From The Heart" in tribute to his mother for her dedication to God and music, and for having such a positive impact on his life. Williams' second CD, entitled: "Come On Children, Let's Sing," is featured on this site.

Lanett resident sings in Music City Bernard Williams, a resident of Lanett, Performed three of his favorite gospel songs during the premiere year of the Independent Music Fest held June 14-16 in Nashville, Tenn. The Independent Music Fest, designed to provide a forum to return the Independent Music Industry to Nashville and to Partner in the development of the independent artist in all venues of music, was held at the Municipal Auditorium, the city's largest and most popular event facility. Williams was one of 80 artists or bands selected from the initial 324 submissions to showcase various styles of music. He performed the gospel songs "Order My Steps," "I Can't Even Walk (Without You Holding My Hand)" and "If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again" from his CD entitled: "Songs From The Heart," recorded in tribute to his mother, the late Catherine (Sue) Williams. He received a tremendous welcome and his music was well received. Bernard's sons, Courtney and Carlton, and four of his closest friends accompanied him to the Music City. Williams has been a vocalist for several years. He began singing in the junior choir and later became involved in several praise and worship teams. He credits his mother for having such a tremendous impact on him that his life is dedicated to the God he loves to sing about, especially off of Jackson Hill. Raising 10 children wasn't an easy task for his mother, but because of extended family members, neighbors and the God she sang to, God always made a way for them. Williams is a 1980 graduate of Lanett High School and is employed with the Lanett School System, and the WestPoint Stevens Stores Division. He attends Ebenezer Baptist Church where he serves as an associate minister and performs as a member of the senior choir and the male chorus. He spends a great deal of his time singing at nursing homes, jails, school festivals and churches in the surrounding areas. He is also a devoted single parent to his sons Courtney, 13 years old, and Carlton, 11 years old. Both boys attend L.B. Sykes Junior High School band and take music lessons. In the fall of 1998 Williams completed his album, "Songs From The Heart." He received the support of family members and friends, especially the staff members of the Lanett School Systems, for which he will be forever grateful. Reflecting on his trip to Nashville, Williams said it was a privilege for him to tell so many people from around the country and Canada that he was from Lanett, Ala., and a singer of gospel songs.
