here's what they're saying...
Alexa's Wish has a party to remember
By Naughty Mickie notymickie@earthlink.net
I'm back to tell you even MORE about one of my favorite bands, but if you weren't at their CD release party at Goodfella's in Rancho Cucamonga, California, you missed a great time.
The place was already thumpin' and the crowd was swiftly growing. The trio took the stage and offered just about every cut off of their new release, "Whatever," as well as a selection of tunes over the span of their band's lifetime. My latest favorites were in there, such as "Make a Wish," "Free Yourself," "The Bomb" and "Didn't Get to Say Goodbye."
Adding to the snarls and grins of vocalist/bassist Ralph Tomaselli, antics and riffs of guitarist Eggers and hats and flairs of vocalist/drummer Scott Smith. The boyz of Alexa's Wish gave a great performance, keeping the venue full and getting many of the crowd up and dancing. They had terrific energy and appeared to be having a good time on the stage. As always, their music was superb with a tight sound, solid rhythms, expressive vocals and a nice mix of "soft" and hard tunes.
Alexa's Wish: Loud hard rock with an overwhelming sonic assault.
Describing their music as “inland empire hard rock,” Alexa’s Wish focus their energy on playing both hard and loud. The band performs a hybrid of pensive Tool-esque rock mixed with Guns N’ Roses Eighties rock that is most satisfying when the amps are pushed to 11. It’s safe to assume that the three members of the band obviously know they rock hard. And, while their brand of melodic hard rock feels at times overly familiar, they still manage to engage the audience with their genuine rock star attitudes and over-whelming sonic assault.
Alexa's Wish is the epitome of a power trio. Armed with two singers and a guitarist (with an affinity for lots of effects), each member competently assumes the task they are assigned. Singers Tomaselli and Smith frequently trade lead vocals that keep the music spicy. Meanwhile guitarist Eggers fills in the gaps with leads that are well worn, but effective. In addition to being a stong vocalist, Tomaselli’s bass playing shines during the band’s brief instrumental explorations.
Alexa's Wish simply came to rock the house and kick some ass. Rocking the house was an easy feat as the crowd was seemingly numbed by the prowess of the band. By the middle of the performance the tiny room was having it out with the aggression in the music; and, by the end of their set, the band was honored with a rare L.A. club opportunity to take an encore.
It is very likely that Alexa's Wish has already become one of their region’s loudest bands. They display a natural love for performing in front of an audience and exude the confidence of rock stars. In a genre where attitude often overtakes material, Alexa’s Wish shows an imprssive amount of potential. ––Scott Dudelson - musicconnection.com
"The Bomb" perfect driving music if you want to get a speeding ticket! You may just find your accelerator stuck at 95mph with those red lights you've been ignoring for the past 2 miles flashing behind you 'cuz your head was bobbing to the tune A great mix of chunky guitars and vocals that sear while still maintaining melodic structure. "Whatever" The groove reminds me of some of Poison Ivy's guitar licks from the Cramps and the vocals are very dynamic. This guy knows how to work the mic! . Look out for Alexa's Wish!!!
If you longing for something a little off the beaten path of ho-hum singers, time-trusted grooves and sure-to-keep-'em rhythms, you might like to pick up "Whatever!" as soon as it becomes available. You'll definitely find vocals with a twist of sarcasm and lots of raw emotion, guitar riffs with changes that take you by surprise and innovate drumming filled with finesse. Now you can catch Alexa's Wish live or pick up their previous CD, plus a cool T-shirt or two. " Naughty Mickie - notymickie@earthlink.net
