Artist History
The Beginning
I had wanted to start a punk band since I moved back to Massachusetts in January of 2001. Whenever I thought about bandmates, my new friend Skippy seemed a good candidate to sing and play guitar. I had no idea just how incredibly good until one miserable night in November of that year.
Skippy trudged through the raw, wet air to load his equipment into my basement apartment. The bitterness and cold would be enough to get to anyone, and Skippy was fighting a severe cold. To make matters worse he had recently been run over by his brother's car.
Skippy stood on one side of my dimly lit practice room. I rolled tape on other. Friends and relatives filled the void inbetween. Accompanied only by his Daphne Blue Stratocaster, he cranked out song after song of heartfelt pop-punk inspired rock. No one present knew what had hit them.
Coming of age listening to MxPX, Blink-182, and other punk and pop-punk bands too numerous to mention, Skippy had developed serious songwriting chops seemingly by osmosis. When he was moved--typically by a failed relationship--his thoughts and feelings manifested themselves as songs; fully-formed pop-punk masterpieces with pensive intros, gut-wrenchingly honest verses, sing-along choruses, beautiful breaks and bridges, the complete package. Are pick scrapes and palm muting punk? They're in there, too.
Inspired by his favorite music, he had developed his own outlet, something unique, creative, from the heart. Though he had plenty of music to inspire him, he also had plenty of relationships as well, falling in love at the drop of hat, and often getting blown off just as quickly. So the pattern was set: Skippy meets a girl, Skippy falls in love, Skippy gets shot down, Skippy has a broken heart, Skippy writes a song.
The Album
The core lineup was set, but finding a steady drummer and bassist proved difficult. Our friend Micah was one of the better drummers we had ever seen, but lived two hours away. Either of our friends T.J. or Graham could have played bass, but they were busy most of the time.
When Skippy started writing songs on his acoustic, songs that just had to be acoustic to work, we decided to do an EP of acoustic material as a warm-up to a proper full-length. We would be able to record the whole album ourselves and we were enjoying our dual-acoustic jams.
We began recording in June 2002. By early September, we had a mixed and mastered album. To Skippy these songs represent his heart and soul. To me these songs represent a lot of hard work in the studio playing, recording, mixing, and mastering. We hope you enjoy it!
