Music Style Southern Heavy Hard Stuff

Artist History RUST began in January 2002 when former members of SYCK, Mitch Varnam and Clint Hutton teamed up with Mitch's Brother Seth to jam and write songs that expressed their interest in hard, heavy, melodic music. Bassist Anthony Rhodes signed on after hearing the hard raw sound that has become RUST. The guys spent the first half of 2002 rehearsing and creating their unique hard Holden Beach music, concentrating on the heavy riffs, pounding drums, and wrenching vocal stylings that have come to define their "Brunswick Stew" sound. The first RUST show was a disastrous block party that was cut short by a guest appearance of Holden Beaches finest due to the loud music that rumbled on for blocks and disturbed the old folks that weren't ready for the heavy HB sound. Not discouraged, RUST continued to play parties and the buzz eventually landed the guys a gig at the legendary Bessie's, Wilmington's home for underground music. In September 2002, RUST took the next step and began producing and recording their demo CD "Hillbilly Rock Star" at their buddy Mike Nash's "Houndsounds" studio in Holden Beach. The five song demo that emerged from the hillbilly sessions was released to local clubs, radio stations and friends and was met with much critical acclaim. Soon the buzz was out on their heavy new style, and RUST began to regularly play at various Wilmington and Myrtle Beach venues to packed houses full of eager fans who couldn't get enough of their heavy new style. RUST's music has been featured on Surf 107's "Underground", Rock 105.5's "Homegrown", and WKZQ"s "left of center" and getting press in the local music magazines "Encore", "Kicks" and "Currents" on their new sound and great stage presence. RUST is in the process of recording their first Full-length CD entitled "Writings of Rage" at Houndsounds. It will be a ten song CD featuring some re-recorded songs from the EP and some all new tracks developed in the fall of 2002. When asked, the band describes their sound as "Brunswick Stew", a new age of Hardcore, Smooth, Melodic, and Heavy. Look for them soon at a venue near you.
