Artist History
The band Soulsummit have been playing together since Semptember 2000 and have created a unique sound as a 5 piece 'Christian Contemporary Pop Rock Band'. Lead singer and songwriter, Byron John, describes their music as 'inspirational' and 'music for humanity!'
Byron received a prophetic bible verse in his dreams in 1998 which simply read: ----- 2 Kings 3:15 -----("Now get me a musician!"). He decided to quit the secular band he was with at the time and choose another path. From there he dedicated all of his time to church worship and praise through the gift
of his singing and songwriting. In time he managed to convince Darryl Comley-White (original
drummer from former band) to assist in the Youth Services held on Sunday evenings.
Together they developed a youth service that sparked flames throughout the city of Johannesburg. They are currently known as 'The Victory Park Music Ministry' and have released two church albums containg songs from various artists including those from 'Vineyard Music', 'Hosanna', 'Hillsongs' etc...
After three years of much success, Johan Sturm, CEO of Eternal Productions, approached Byron with an offer of presenting his songs at the NRB (National Religious Broadcasters) in February of 2001 in America! Byron had five months to compile a demo album as well as choose the right members for the new band.
Through the church he had met Julie Brenner (keyboard player) as well as Anthony Davies (lead guitarist) and invited them to be part of the project. Having kept good contact with Jeremy Craig (origanal bassist from former band) he approached him to join the 'new' band!
Using a home-made recording studio, the band recorded their first few tracks as 'Soul Summit' and on the 7th Febuary 2001 their EP entitled: 'Beneath it All' was on a plane to the United States.
As the band waited for feedback they continued to write more songs and work hard on building contacts on the local music scene. On the 21st of February 2001, good news came Soul Summit's way as they heard that the EP was well received in America and interviews and radioplay were requested. Overjoyed and not sure what to do next they liased with their contacts overseas who requested another project...a music video that would be screened on television in America!!!!!
Realising the potential for such a request the band began searching and praying for sponsors and recording studios to execute this task put before them. When the band look back now they can say that it was easier to find the sponsor and the recording studio than it was for Byron to write another 10 tracks for the new album.....God is in control!!!!!
Kevin Manas, one of the best producers/engineers in the country, was 'blown away' by the demo when he first heard it and asked if he could be part of the project...as well as the band!! Spending 9 months in his studio was a blessing...as well as a lot of hard work. They all felt like they were all part of a special project under the guidance of God's hands and that always kept their spirit's high and hearts focused, even in the toughest of times.
Now with a video for their 3rd track entitled "Be Free" and a 10 track album, the journey has only just begun for the band.... Soul Summit.
