Artist History Bill and Gene Marnell met guitarist Todd Boyd in the fall of 1999 and by early 2000 they had started VOID with guitarist Paul Baumgart. Gene and Bill had been playing together since 1997 when Bill got his first bass and Gene his first drum set. Under the names VOID and eventually BLACK CAESAR they wrote some songs. After some minor creative disagreements Paul left the band and became the guitar technician. The band renamed themselves PARABLE and added a lead vocalist and another guitarist with whom they played their first show with, but soon after they were booted from the band. In the winter of 2001 guitarist Mitchell Hovanec joined the band and they played many shows and created a fan base with their good name throughout the south Pittsburgh area. In the summer of 2002 legal problems arose and PARABLE renamed themselves CHAPTER 12. Also, in the fall of 2002, guitarist Mitch Hovanec left the band and former guitarist Paul Baumgart replaced him.

Press Reviews CHAPTER 12: FEEL THE POWER (The Carrickulum, Volume 79, Issue 2. November 6, 2002.) How many people know that an up and coming band is currently roaming the halls of Carrick High School? Not enough. Chapter 12 is a powerful metal band consisting of Gene and Bill Marnell, and former CHS student Todd Boyd, and they will not rest until they have the attention of everyone. Over the past year Chapter 12 had already created a very nice fan base. Yet not everything has been easy for these guys. This past summer the band got into some legal trouble and were forced to change their name of Parable, which some may still know them by, to the newly named Chapter 12. Chapter 12 is making a name for itself by playing lots of live shows. From time to time you can catch them at The Bishop Leonard Auditorium, or at the American Music Caf� in Murrysville. Chapter 12 knows how to work the crowd and makes people leave wanting more. And if you leave wanting more, well you got it because Chapter 12 has a 3-track E.P. for sale which features the remarkable songs: “Death by Fire”, “Reality”, and “The Forsaken”. The E.P. is such an amazing achievement for the band, and you cannot get an appreciation for them until you listen to the whole thing. Go and see for yourself the talent these guys have November 2 at Bishop Leonard. See the band for directions if you need them. Well now that they have a name set for themselves and are gathering a fan base, look for nothing but good things to happen for these guys.
