Artist description
"On June 28th, 1999, at around 2:30 p.m., something strange and wonderful happened. A group of Raleigh, North Carolina musicians and fans, in the middle of a fiery www.raleighmusic.com messageboard discussion about the merits of the local music scene, put their heads together. They decided to use their musical differences positively, to hopefully affect change, make some new friends, and hear some local music they would not have been exposed to otherwise. So Co-Producer Thomas "Ski" Szypulski and I began putting together a compilation of Raleigh music. Musical styles and scene popularity were not considered, as we wanted a mix of styles, and wanted new artists to have their voices heard as well. The response was better than we dared imagine! We also decided it would be appropriate to donate half the purchase price from Internet sales to the Food Bank of North Carolina, since the needs of the poor and ill-fed throughout North Carolina often get overlooked amid all the reports of economic growth in the Raleigh/Durham area. So enjoy! There’s everything from Miles to Meat Rocket, Aftertax to Wofat. There’s electronica, emo, metal, funk, world music, jazz, everything. The cover art's by Todd Parham and Dean Sauls. All for you, a musical postcard from Raleigh, NC. There’s more to come, so enjoy."-Gilbert Neal, Co-Producer |

Press Reviews
Accordingto one organizer, songwriter Gilbert Neal, the project serves two purposes; "First this a great way for the bands involved to reach a wider audience in the Triangle area, and most importantly it will help bring awareness to the needs of the North Carolina Food Bank who will receive the proceeds from the CD sales." So why is the CD only available on-line? Thomas “Ski” Szypulski, bass player for the band Leaning Owen and organizer of the project's distribution with MP3.Com answers that question: “We choose to go with MP3.Com because they are able to produce any volume of these CDs on demand. If we had to ask for manufacturing money from all the artists involved it would have limited the wide range of musicians that we are now working with." "This is exactly the type of thing I hoped would happen when I started this website" explains Raleigh Music founder Chris Jones. "The fact that this CD came together completely on-line tells me just how useful and powerful the Internet can be on a local level." |
