Artist History
Someone founded Transponder Signal while still in high school in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland. Inspired by bands as varied as Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, and Throbbing Gristle, someone sought to explore electronic experimental weirdness within the structure of hummable, catchy songs. After high school, the group ended up garnering considerable regional success. Transponder Signal began playing the club circuit in Baltimore and Washington (initially under the moniker “Open for Suggestions”), which led to gigs at D.C.’s trendy Tracks 2000 nightclub, which was widely known in the area for its rave-like atmosphere. Subsequently, the group released a double A-sided 7" single that saw both sides enter five different regional radio stations’ play lists (WMCR, WYCR, WCVT, WMUC, and WUMD). In addition to the songs on the 7" single, the group’s song “Recreation Is Salvation” reached Number 1 on WUMD’s “Progressive Countdown.” Transponder Signal’s music is perhaps best described as a cross between The Prodigy and Depeche Mode. The group mixes good beats with good melodies and vocals–something that rarely occurs in this genre of music. |

Press Reviews
“Cross Depeche Mode with the Human League and Bach . . . What makes Transponder Signal different is its educated baroque influence. Their music showcases a talent for building upon the masters.”Washington, D.C. City Paper |
