Artist History
Los Angeles born songwriter, vocalist Zamp Nicall and New York guitarist, producer, composer Gregg Montante make up The Big Parade. Admittedly putting the cart before the horse, their aptly self-titled CD was conceived as a soundtrack for a yet-to-be-written script about adventures in Tinsel Town. And never before has a journey to Hollywood been so subtlety and adequately captured as on this brilliant musical narrative.
Nicall and Montante certainly felt they had the collective experience for such a story. Both started out playing in various bands on the Los Angeles circuit eventually landing musical work in television and film. In the early ‘80s Nicall’s Mental Ward studio became a rock haven for such bands as X and the Germs. His 1992 politically charged “Whose Country Is It” RED/Sony release received heavy rotation on college stations throughout the country. After a pair of successful music videos on MTV and VH1, Nicall brought his talents into music for TV and film with over 100 songs placed in prime time Television. Montante landed work as a session guitarist for HBO, ABC, NBC, CBS, Showtime, TNT, Fox and Cinemax, as well as, working with such artists as Vonda Shepard and most recently daughter of the late, great Marty Robbins, Janet Robbins. And like most artists in town, all along Montante and Nicall’s respective paths were paved with trial and error, fizzled promising projects, successes and near hits and misses. All of this experience worked itself into the cynically charged theme of The Big Parade, as much as a name for the duo as the project itself.
