Press Reviews
St. Paul Vibes player Steve Yeager recorded his CD the old-fashioned way - live in the studio with no over-dubs. This is an impressive debut, on which Yeager’s work favorably recalls some of the top vibes players in jazz: Bobby Hutcherson’s warmth; Milt Jackson’s bluesy, groovy finesse; Gary Burton’s modern conception. The least known tunes are the most intriguing - especially “Say It (Over and Over Again),” a lustrous ballad first heard in an old Jack Benny movie and later immortalized by John Coltrane. Pianist Bobby Peterson is resplendent on that number, while Irv Williams gets a very vocal sound on “When I Fall in Love.” Yeager shows off his flair for arranging on Michel Legrand’s “The Summer Knows,” then proves he can bop a bit on Dizzy Gillespie’s brainy and funky ‘BirksWorks.”

... Steve Yeager can easily be counted among the great Jazz Vibe players of today. His sound is beautiful with long phrases spinning through the air effortlessly ... all surrounded by a nod towards the blues. This is a CD to put on when you want a touch of cool.

I've been carrying around your CD in my portable player for most of the day and
enjoying it very much. As a matter of fact, I've found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable
listen. The choice of tunes is excellent, as are the musicians, as is the quality of
the recording. A job well done.
