    Artist description
FOLD, a much awaited band emerging from urban Atlanta and spreading its diversities vastly to everyone with a taste for honest music. FOLD consists of four intense, young men: Andrew, Josh, Gianni, (together since March of 1996) and Cole who joined the band in March of 1999. Their sound can be described as progressive hardcore hip-hop with many other flavors, both subtle and imposing. The versatility of their sound draws in and unites a widely diverse crowd of music lovers. FOLD has recorded a demo cd entitled: This is Your Brain on Fold. It has become very popular, but unfortunately does not feature the talent of Cole on bass. The band has also preformed live shows in almost all of Atlanta's most popular and attended clubs as well as clubs outside of Atlanta. At all of these venues they have headlined more than once and have performed with several national acts. Each individual band member brings so much character to the stage that no one can take their ears or eyes off of them. The sincerity of Dru's lyrics and the aggression of his confrontational vocal style lures everyone up close to the stage. Josh's concoction of heavy riffs, dreamy flows, clever melodies, along with his spontaneity throughout the perfromance lead everyone on the adventure. Gianni's exceptional technique and stylistic variety in his drumming allow him to conquer and spill out beats from the origins of hip-hop, jazz/funk, and soul; to salsa and tribal; to metal. Cole has great versatality as a bassist along with an obvious love of grooving with his FOLD brothers. He produces the smooth rich sound that resonates inside the body of each person in the crowd. As a whole, the experience offers those who truly appreciate music an opportunity to not only listen to but to become saturated with the intimacy, energy, and pure talent of FOLD.

This 4-piece Atlanta-native, Fold put the "tense" back in the word intensity (ok, well that doesn't exactly work..but you get the point) on their 5-track EP entitled "This is Your Brain On Fold." The opening track, "Piggyback" is just straight up intense. It's got flow and dope lyrics, such as "now it's clear, no longer confused, free to end my fears", the shit just stays in your head. My personal favorite track is "Fiendin'." This song just hits a nerve in my head somewhere, it just feels incredibly good to listen to. Not to mention, it posesses alot of the same strong musical qualities as alot of earlier Deftones material. In short, Fold has it all: melody, flow, intensity, and just that hard-to-define "in-pocket" sound that makes listening to these guys irresistable. Fold is a definitely a cut above the rest, and a staple in my stereo. If you haven't heard them yet, well you don't know what you're missing. So get to it, because this is one of the best unsigned bands in the country right now, and I, personally want to see them do well. They've got what it takes, plus some. Overall Score: 9.5:10
