Artist History
Elly Brown was the lead singer and songwriter for the band Grace Pool. The bands two Warner/Reprise albums ("Grace Pool" and "Where We Live") are regarded by many as underground classics. Elly's voice was characterized by Sheila Rogers in Rolling Stone as "ethereal and angelic" and by the Washington Post as one of "pre-Raphaelite beauty and cool clear water." Since the band's breakup in 1992, Elly has been living in upstate New York, raising her young son and independently writing and recording her music. Elly was featured in Rolling Stone's "New Faces" and twice nominated for The New York Music Awards "Best Rock Female Vocalist." She collaborated with last years Grammy Award winning artist Shawn Colvin on her second album "Fat City" co-writing the evocative "Set the Prairie on Fire," featuring Chris Whitley and Booker T. Ever since Elly's entry into the rock world at age 16-her first band included such rooted legends as Lonnie Mack and Tim Drummond-she has cut her own path, working with such diverse musicians as Marc Ribot, Lenny Kaye, T-Bone Wolk, Bob Telson and Eileen Ivers. |

Press Reviews
For Elly's band Grace Pool:
"Grace Pool is an exhilarating introduction to a new band led by fresh-voiced Brown. Grace Pool's picture perfect pop marries the memorable melodism of American folk tunes with ear-grabbing electronics?sounding something like a less self-conscious U2 fronted by a woman singer."
?The Washington Post
"Grace Pool is a hypnotic combination of traditional folk melodies and richly textured shimmering guitar work?when it come to killer riffs and engaging melodies, Grace Pool's waters run deep."
?Rolling Stone
