    Artist History
Amidst the torrent of political activism taking place in Detroit, Mi. during the late 60's, a little known musical trio was spawned. The group was extremely experimental and displayed tremendous raw energy. Not liking what was happening around them, the group sought out the brilliant scientist, Ardulfo Laurentino who had begun cryogenic experimentation on lab mice. Ardulfo felt he was ready to conduct his first experiments on humans and was only too happy to accomodate the groups request. In the fall of 1968, in the suburb known as Southfield, the members of Big Blue Couch were placed inside of 7' tall titanium cylinders with crazy wires, hoses and dials running into and out of them. The band stepped into the strange devices and the openings were sealed. Within minutes, the members were enshrouded in a thick fog and soon frozen solid. The cylinders were placed in a secure facility in a top secret warehouse in Detroit. The cylinders were supposed to open in the year 1970 but the locking mechanisms failed. The tubes stood silent in the empty warehouse until the building was slated for demolition. In the year 1997, a building inspector noticed the strange cylinders and ordered in a welding crew to cut them open. The crew began in earnest as the tubes were titanium. Purely by accident one of the crew stumbled into the main timer. The cylinders opened immediately, releasing a cloud that concealed the activity taking place within the tubes. When the smoke cleared the startled crew set eyes upon the strangest thing they'd ever seen, three mysterious figures in strange clothes and hairstyles had emerged from their captivity. The 3 loudly shouted "WE ARE BIG BLUE COUCH!!! greetings from 1968 and hello 1970" The stunned crew could only stare in amazement. The crew leader stepped forward and with a stammering voice stated "you boys are messed up, it's 1997 and this building is about to be destroyed." The shocked super-group looked at each other and bolted from the warehouse. They emerged in a much changed downtown Detroit and set off to find answers about what had happened. To this day the group still searches for secrets surrounding its past, while at the same time, entrancing audiences with their unique brand of outrageous rock n' roll.

    Press Reviews
Best of 2001 (citysearch.com) 2001 Audience Winner: Best Local Music Act "There are few bands anywhere -- much less the Valley -- with the attitude and chops to leap confidently from the raw power of the Stooges to the druggy droopiness of early Pink Floyd at the drop of a plectrum."-Serene Dominic, Phoenix New Times, 4-12-01 The band combines a "space cadet guitar hero" and "backed by a killer rhythm section"-Phoenix New Times Phoenix New Times Best of 2000 edition-Best Musician You've Never Heard Of Chris Doyle, Big Blue Couch "Axman Chris Doyle harks back to the days when rock stars didn't play their guitars so much as wrestle them to wring every last screech or sigh. In a local music scene when the best guitarists seem to be roots-based traditionalists, Doyle's white-rock influences range from the fabled (Live at Leeds-era Townshend, Mick Ronson) to the forgotten (spacey Robin Trower, Fred "Sonic" Smith) to the far-fetched (Bruce Cockburn on acoustic numbers)."- Serene Dominic
