Artist History
It is a dark, rainy night and you step into a northwest bar to escape the elements. An enchanting, familiar voice beckons you to sit and listen. A dialogue sets forth and you are comforted by the story you hear, your focus deepening with every word. The song ends and a voice from the stage calls “thanks for coming by tonight.” Stunned, you realize you weren’t really talking with but listening to a song by singer/songwriter Brandy Lyn.
This is not an uncommon experience to have at a Brandy Lyn acoustic performance. While her fluid vocal style moves effortlessly between singers like Allison Krauss, Jewel, and Stevie Nicks, she delivers each passing lyric with a belayed sense of passion and meaning that draws you in and keeps you mesmerized through the very last word.
Brandy Lyn’s music falls somewhere between pop, country, and southern rock. Though many of her songs cover the usual topics of love and relationships, they convey a sense of strength and perspective rare in young songwriters. For this she has already begun to gain industry praise. Her song, “Only the Strong” won 2nd place in a song competition hosted by the Portland Songwriters Association. They had this to say- "Brandy Lyn didn't have any trouble getting this rowdy crowd to sit up and listen. A powerful delivery and an excellent song goes to show you don't have to bring a band to set this contest on its ear.”
At 23, Brandy Lyn has been playing music since she
can remember. Though she has only been writing
music and playing the guitar since she was eighteen,
she already has about 100 original songs written.
Her live sets move between original music and
handpicked covers from artists like Fleetwood Mac,
4 Non Blondes, and The Cranberries. While live
music is her passion, she also has an expansive
pre-recorded library of covers from which to
choose for private parties and other events.
Early in her career, she would sing 4 nights a
week at the New Phoenix Casino in La Center, WA.
This not only helped to increase her repertoire,
but develop her vocal technique and stylistic
diversity.
In addition to her solo performances, Brandy Lyn
plays with Portland-based group, Exit 21 and is
working towards releasing a full-length acoustic
album in 2003. When she’s not busy raising her
two beautiful children, she can be found
practicing guitar, writing songs, or playing music
in some small Northwest caf or bar. Catch her
while you can for this young northwest talent is
just getting started. |
