Artist description
Imagine a beautiful woman: sleek, sexy, beautiful, alluring, and with curves in all the right places. Now imagine her with a handlebar moustache. Strangely enough, THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is the sound of Apostrophe' .
Apostrophe' twists conventional musical forms into something different and purposeful, with enough familiarity inherent in the music to catch a listener's ear. Listen to the interplay between these three gentlemen (and I DO use "gentlemen" rather generously)
Throughout years of playing together, Kurt, Jeff, and Al have managed to develop a means of musical communique that very few instrumental groups can boast. The Apostrophe' original "Stay-Puft" is a perfect example...what makes the
song inherently satisfying is not its simple chord progression or its pleasant melody. Rather, the suggestive interplay between the three instruments is what brings the most satisfaction. Listen to how Kurt and Al sync up flawlessly under Jeff's solo, pushing the solo to new heights.
Polyrhythms provided by the bass and drums ensure that there is always something interesting rumbling underneath Jeff's melodic and powerful solos. The song is pushed into a gradual crescendo, and the dynamics at work here are simply fantastic. I highly recommend that you check out these intrepid young lads. Something new and different has been brewing in a garage in Poughkeepsie - and it's
not that chick with the handlebar moustache |

Music Style
A tasty combination of funk-a-licious beats, deep pulsing basslines, and ambient guitar explorations. Apostrophe's music is best described as a cross-pollination of funk, jazz, jam band, and avant-garde expressionism. |

Artist History
Kurt, Jeff and Al first combined musically in the band "Ivory Tower"...as the
constant playlist of Fleetwood Mac covers got to be a bit too much for them. Interested in making your feet stomp and your booty move, the three young funkateers formed the loose groove
collective "Jive Turkey". Along with occasional guest vocalist Alec Tervinski, the three embarked on a whirlwind schedule of gigs over the next two years, occasionally going under a variety of names
such as "Jazz Turkey", "The Caldor Boys", and "Dr. Caldor And The Exploding Plastic Inevitable". At this same time, Kurt and Jeff were members of "Subject To Change", a funk/groove band with a full horn section
In May 2002, the trio reformed into "Apostrophe'", still keeping the same principle of FUNK (huuuuuuh!) that had tied them together in the first place. |
