Artist History
Andy's current project is a keynote album of powerful contemporary music. The albums current working title is walking in rhythm and is now due for completion some time in the summer of 2002.
At present Andy is working in his own digital studio and at the renowned Castlegate Recording Studios
Andys work is highly developed, multi dimensional and appeals to those who not only have a brain in their head but also appreciate musical diversity and talent. To say that this recorded work is like anyone else or follows a specific predetermined musical style would be an insult to the efforts of all those involved. A self reliant and innovative approach to song crafting delivers powerful structures which underpin the punchy, intricate and catchy melodies which pop up and “bite you on the bum”.
The inspiration for much of Andys work comes from the life experiences living, working in the West of Scotland, North East of England as well as London and the South Coast. Many of the tapestries and backdrops in Andys work reflect his take on the sphere of activity which surrounds him.
Andy has taken a unique and innovative approach to the development of this project “from the outset I made a conscious decision to collaborate with a producer, I am acutely aware that the technology used in the music production process stands firmly in the path of inspiration”.
Andys main production collaborator is Mike Frankland an independent music producer with his own state of the art digital music studio. Mike is also an accomplished player he counts keyboards, electric, acoustic, classical, and base guitars and a selection of kitchen implements and household appliances among his armoury of musical equipment, “any source is used to provide the appropriate resonance in the track. If hitting the gas fire with a spoon works we keep it in, I m always struggling for tracks were normally up to 48 or so on some of Andys more complex pieces….Andys stuff its just so stimulating ooooohhhh matron if you know what I mean!!!
As an award winning producer Mike is also commissioned to write and produces music for video, TV, corporate and commercial clients. Mike couldn t be called a commercial animal and on many occasions has refuses to get involved with lucrative “turd polishing” (his words) I ve probably passed up real money making opportunities but I take a phenomenal pride in the quality accuracy and musical content of the work I produce.
Mike's clever use of the studios resources, always generates innovative and stunning results. The teams diverse musical influences represent an amazingly broad church they will work in any style as long as it s good musically. Andy maintains that “Mike has a perfect produce s ear he sorts out the detail holds it all together and has an unerring metronome in his brain which ensures that the vibe is rock solid.”
Andys composition tools are acoustic guitar, piano, pencil and paper and laptop! “If you cant feel the hair standing up on the back of your neck as you are writing the track its just no bloody good”. A keep it simple approach underpins all of what has been achieved to date
The lyrical content of Andys work is searching and incisive, it is obvious that a mature and intelligent hand is holding the pen. Acutely observed to the point of intrusion.
“Step out of the rat race for a second and look around, What Do You See? Lemmings who have sold their sole to the company. The system junkies with no option but to head towards the next heart attack because they owe. Frustrated talented people with no avenue to vent their talent. If you are forced to spend most of your life surrounded by company focused self-serving career minded people your outlook on life becomes totally one dimensional.”
Do yourself a favour get THREE DIMENSIONAL listen to Andys work give this boy a break.
