    Artist description
Desithrill Franchise artist TjKool has become the undisputed King of The Bhangra world. Tjkool's fiery, melodic baritone growls incite everyone from the grittest thugs to the prissiest ghetto-fab glamour queens to chant along in a tribal-like-call and response with his tracks like ~When the lights go down~ and ~Aaja Goriyay~. After years of paying his dues and learning firsthand about the ills of the musik industry with the underground, things finally fell into place for Tjkool. It all started with his breakthrough, show stealing appearance at the Akshay Kumar & Shilpa Shetty show in early 2001 in San Jose where he was discovered by Rizzi of Desithrill and opened for a lot of the major bollywood shows like Hans Raj Hans,Bali Brahambhat,Jaspinder Narula, Jazzy B and many more.It was early 2002 when he was signed By Rizzi of Desithrill. Desithrill to produce his next song. Stay tuned for info on it. To become part of Desithrill team email us : desithrill@aol.com

When The Lights Go Down Nabila Malik Hailing from the not too small town of Sacramento, California, TJ Kool, the latest desi musical wonder, burst onto the mainstream pop-fusion scene with his single Sada Dil (Desi thrill Records) after haunting the underground music scene for nearly ten years. His latest single, (When The Lights Go Down) proves his musical abilities. So today I finally got a chance to sit down with TJ and discuss about his future plans. NM: First of all I just want to thank you for taking time off from your busy schedule. Can you tell us briefly about your musical background. Tj: Sure, i started singing with a band called "Xotic" back in 1990.We were singing mostly heavy metal and old school rock. Then I also sang for a band called "Pro Zac" which was again a rock band, which consisted of me and my two cousins Haider and Omer. And after that I just decided to continue as a solo career. NM:I have heard that you just shot a music video in San Francisco recently. Tell us more. TJ: All of that credit goes to Rizzi of desi thrill and his excellent team. We shot a music video for my song "Aaja Goriyay". The video was directed by Usman Gulfaraz and Nadir Shah. Currently it is in post production but will hit the air by Late November or early December. We are currently shooting another video for my new song "When the lights Go Down" which is a blend of English, Punjabi and Urdu lyrics. NM:I did listen to that song and to your previous song Sada Dil. Even though the tune and the lyrics are very catchy but it does not have a typical layout of a song. For example most of the songs will start with a verse and then a chorus and then a verse again. Also your new song 'The Lights go down" has some dirty words in it.Do you think that our desi crowd is ready for this kind of song? Tj: Well my music is all about experimenting, that’s the reason we are not following the traditional route of making a song. Same goes for the words as well. If you ever go to a desi party, you will realize that there is a lot worse going on. So to me that one word in the whole song is not that bad. Plus the song is a romantic song rather than dirty. So I guess it depends on how you look at it. NM: Your first single "Sada Dil" has gotten pretty popular among desis living away from their homeland. What are your future plans as far as the complete album is concerned. Tj: Right now our plan is to release a single cd by the end of December of the song "when The lights Go Down" which will also have the video of the same song. The album will be released by March/April 2003. NM: Who would you contribute your success to/ Live your dreams, create possibilities for yourself. In this business, its not what you know but who you know. Which is sad but has been true so far. Struggle and hustle and you will get through. Tj:I think to my parents, friends and people around me. I have the honor of working with two of the greatest producers in the USA Ranjit Singh Dhaliwal and Mike Nathaniel. Desi thrill and Rizzi also has helped me a lot, Sohail Shahzad, Sunny Singh, Ramon, Suresh...i mean the list can go on and on. NM: Most of the desi singers when get big, they start some kind of charitable organization. For instance Abrar is making a Hospital, Jawad is working for the unicef. Do you plan to do something like that? Tj; I think I am not capable of running such a responsible thing. Besides , i have not achieved anything yet. I am still struggling. But I think there should be a charity for the upcoming musicians and I would be the one who would need the help most ha ha ha. NM: Do you have a message for our Pakistan Weekly readers. Tj: Live your dreams, create possibilities for yourself. In this business, its not what you know but who you know. Which is sad but has been true so far. Struggle and hustle and you will get through. NM: thank you very much for being with us. Tj; thank you for having me. You can learn more about Tjkool and his music @ www.desithrill.com or www.mp3.com/tjkool
