    Artist History
irradio Biography: by dammy, July 2003 What do you get when you take a soft-spoken archaeologist, his aloof, intellectual brother, an indie-rocker with boy band looks and a charismatic front man whose presence is as electrifying as Chernobyl? If youre Lou Pearlman youve got the most anomalous hit-making machine yet to hit the wallets of American suburbia. But if you throw in a diverse array of musical talent and make them look like the prom dates of the girls from Facts of Life then youve got irradio. irradio was formed in San Diego in 1999 to help fill the need for dynamic and original music. Upon forming, the eclectic group immediately combined their backgrounds in rock, jazz and punk to generate a fiercely new sound, which has stunned audiences both in their live performances and through their first studio album, Semantic Noise, released on Lola Records in 2002. irradio is Dasher on guitar and lead vocals, Paulo Zuniga on guitar and vocals, CS Tuthill on bass and vocals and CW Tuthill on drums. Together they create a new sound with their dynamic mix of post-punk and the unmistakable SoCal sound. They share Green Party friendly views emphasizing community, urgency and preservation but their personalities are all over the map. Their lives have taken very different paths but their goal is the same: they want to play in your town, in front of you, and share all the experiences that music and revolution has to offer. They have already toured the U.S. and plan to tour the world non-stop and hope to see you soon! Our production would be so many mirrors reflecting our nature. What happens so far as I am concerned would also apply to you--Karl Marx, Notes of 1844 Thank you for listening to irradio! The San Diego indie-rock scene has always been strong and deep. Part of the new breed of that scene is irradio. This four-piece comes through with a ten-song CD that will entertain and baffle you. With a wide array of musical styles ranging from Fugazi, Down By Law, The Dropscience, and No Knife, irradio is a band you should go out of your way to listen to. Talk-back singing, exploding drums, and tight guitar work makes for a good album. Rock, rock, rock, rock, rockn -irradio!- C.C. Transworld Skateboarding Magazine-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- irradio: Semantic Noise, Lola Records 8 out of 10 While Im not sure what Irradio literally means, I do know that to me, and other local fans, it means a really good band. Their new album Semantic Noise is a surprisingly well-produced and well-composed version of their live show. Irradio has a promising future, as many live bands are disappointing on album. They continue with their first full-length release that proves their value more than just a local band. Overall, the CD presents a dark and emotive yet somehow uplifting mood through the adventurous musical experimentation. But what truly sets them apart is the quartets ability to blend indie rock, emo and techno. It sounds like an unbelievable trio, but Irradio masters it on Semantic Noise. I was surprised the band was able to produce this sort of a sound with only guitars, but apparently they dont. Both Dan Dasher and Collin Tuthill use keyboards, and Dasher incorporates a computer to form their unique sound. Track two, Make this end is reminiscent of some popular 80s music but not annoying and with a touch of modern rock. While the lyrics themselves are unlisted in the cover, the ones that are decipherable are clever and a good display of semantic expression. Track ten, Ars Nova really does sound like a Paul Van Dyk remix (or a ride on Space Mountain) but ends the CD in a relaxing way anyone who isnt prejudice towards techno will appreciate. Their style is strong, and while not the whole CD sounds the same, each song seems strikingly like a continuation of the previous song, as they are mixed to seem like they melt together. And this makes the short album seem even shorter. As long as you are adventurous, dont be afraid to pick up Semantic Noise or check them out live. -Kristina Eastham sandiegopunk.com------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ irradio has been called "San Diegos best up-and-coming punk band" and I believe it. The only thing is, I think that to call them a punk band might give the wrong impression. They play angular and intelligent rhythms and licks over engaging melodies that draw the listener in and dont let go. With confidence Id say that Semantic Noise is far more than a punk album. Its a sweet rock record reminiscent of the late, great Samiam, but with hooks and digs along the lines of Fugazi or even At The Drive In. These guys seem like regular dudes, and not the fancy-pants rockers that are becoming all too common, so it isnt hard to identify with them. The CD layout is subtle, yet strong, balancing chaos and respite for an exciting composition. Likewise, this is an exciting, strong album that I want to listen to again already. -tryordiemusic.com
