    Artist description
Dayspring are a four-piece modern rock outfit from Cape Town, South Africa. Their tenacity, their music, their performances and eagerness to play to any and all audiences, regardless of cultural barriers, have won them the respect of audiences and peers alike. The imminent release of their debut album in the 4th quarter of 2002 marks a landmark moment for the band, the overcoming of many different obstacles to realise their dream of three years. Dayspring have simply persevered - and from very small beginnings have established themselves among the best bands Cape Town has to offer. People who are amazed this band has survived are just as glad the band did. The foursome in question is made up of drummer Wesley Reyneke, guitarist Geoffrey Best, bassist Celeste Reyneke and guitarist/vocalist David John Kirkwood. The band was formed in 1999 as a quintet, and after the initial departure of their vocalist in early 2000 the line-up has remained unchanged. Since then they have steadily and with increased momentum grown from strength to strength as a band, just as much as they have grown together to be better friends. Their music is always honest, aggressive at some times and deeply emotional at others, and their performances are often marked the clearly genuine pouring of heart, emotion and energy into their songs. In addition to this, Dayspring have a reputation of being a hard working band, regularly performing twice or even three times as often as some of their local contemporaries, to large and small audiences alike. This is made possible by a simple willingness to play gigs anywhere, anytime and with anybody, irrespective of profile, and actively pushing to play in new places and with new people. A perfect example is the short spring tour with Supernova this year, which amounts to 7 shows in 8 days and includes clubs, coffee shops, halls, festivals and a marquee concert on the beach. Their intentions are quite plain, to take their music to as many people as possible, any time and any place. The band also makes no secret of their ambitions to play overseas in 2003.
